Terrain Specific Attack Bonus
I propose that certain units should recieve an attack bonus which would depend upon the terrain type from which they are attacking, and perhaps which terrain type the defending unit is on. For instance in history, German horsemen took out three Roman legions...in the forest. Legions lose cohesiveness in the forest, and advantage passes to mounted forces. Yet in Civ 2, the legion recieves a defensive bonus from forest, and horsemen have almost no chance against them.
There are other examples. Archers on a hill, or in a fort or walled city, phalanx or armor on open ground, I gotta go to work.
What about ambush? Hell we made it an art form in the Cav on the East German border. Attacking forces DO NOT ALWAYS KNOW YOU ARE THERE! That could be terrain related in the game as in real life. A function of the defenders terrain and the attackers movement. In this instance the person whose turn it is does not get to attack, the defender does, with a fat surprise bonus.
