I agree but I think Firaxis was trying to eliminate the airbase exploit that was present in Civ2. Therefor no airbases in Civ3. I find myself relying heavily on carriers to project my airpower to those hard to reach places.

Airbases are necessary. I think someone might be able to make a land "carrier" unit for this purpose.

they did, they made an immobile land carrier unit that paradrops.
it's a far cry from the airbases / navalbases i wanted but whatever.
i forgot who but it's in the files forums... never tried it.

Yeah I never tried that either.
Too lazy I suppose but also I have grown accustomed to living without airbases in Civ3.
