Donnie Darko: total ****ing GENIUS!
Has anyone else here seen this film?
I can't remember the last time I was so totally drawn into a movie. My roommate and I watched it on Monday, and talked for nearly an hour afterwards about its logic and symbolism, coming up with many different theories and answers.
We watched it again on Wednesday, and discussed even more theories, for an even longer time.
Then last night, we spent nearly three hours going through its strange and wonderful website, with new insights and theories into this film hitting us like lightning bolts and spawning whole new tangents of excited discussion.
*****(But please note: DEFINITELY watch the movie *before* checking out the site).*****
This morning, I woke up and walked into the living room, and he was watching it AGAIN!
And so now, with a pretty damn good theory of it in our heads, we're going to watch it on Sunday on DVD with writer/director's commentary, rabidly dissecting this thing and quite possible frothing at the mouth.
I swear, I can't remember seeing any film that is such a wonderful, deep and complex puzzle. Every single reference, every image, every line can be interpreted as relevant or symbolic to its strange and complex universe.
But I'll stop right there, because I wouldn't want to ruin anything.
And I'll warn you: the trailer for this film is CRAP. And the description on the box makes it sound like CRAP. Believe me, it's definitely not.
You may not think much of it the first time you see it, but if you don't . . . then keep thinking about it. I must say: damn. Wow.
