Everyone:

Hmm ... does the latest patch allow for historically accurate starting points? Seems like I read something along those lines in the 1.21 patch info, but now my memory isn't quite so sure.

You don't need a patch to do that. Just get CivBreed or something.

It's just a filetype that allows the utility to place civs where they belong. The same thing is a ".c3b" file which is what CivBreed uses (which is what I use).

Marla or whoever can help/is interested.

I tried running Marla map 1.18 last night with Civ3 patch 1.21f.
The Marla map I dl'd is a self extracting file from civfanatics. It seems that the saved file from a game using 1.21f is incompatible with Marla's 1.18 correct placement tool.

Any updates to this self extracting Marla map? If not does Gramphos correct placement tool work with 1.21f?

The civ placement tool has been upgrated to work with 1.21. Find the thread, it's in there somewhere...

I have been using the Marla's World Map from www. civIII.com. It works well with the newest version of CivIII. I did download the other Marla's World Map from other sites. I do not know if they work with the newest version of CivIII. Some people have been having problems with some versions.
I enjoy traveling around the Earth. This civilization is perfectly peaceful. So far, I am the most powerful nation because I got placed in a good patch of land. No one has any need for war. And I can explore a little more while developing my economic system. The planet Earth is truly designed for peace.

Yeah Marla's map of our earth is really cool! I've played on it but without using the civ placement tool. Haven't tried Gramphos' placement tool yet but will when I get a chance.

I started a game as Japan on this map. The AI sucks donkey dong as the japanese, but it works well for the human! Nobody has met the civs in the americas yet, but I am 2nd or 3rd on the histogram. I started an early war with China, which proved to be a very good approach. They completely stopped expanding southwards and focused on training bad guys to attack my cities in korea. I got about half the silks by settling.

I made a dumb move by starting a war with India, tho. O well, walls are cheap...

Sounds pretty cool!

Yeah war with India is never easy, no matter what map you play.

With war, I find a good place to form a line of a mobile army, and I study how they attack. Then I begin to enclose them. Of course, they realize what I am doing, but they usually make the mistake of attacking. So, I cut them off from their homeland. Basic line ands circle tactics works very well as it always has in real life. The diplomacy is still a little weak so they never make peace which is the AI's fault.
