Espionage and the AI in 1.21
Has anyone noticed that the AI actually tries to use the espionage/embassies more now in 1.21?

In my last game, I saw quite a few screens that I had never ever seen before in previous games.

- The AI actually established an embassy before I did. It took me forever to figure out that it worked both ways and now I did not have to pay the gold to establish an embassy.

- The AI captured my spy (no crap!) that I had while the AI (Americans) was a communist (eheheheh) government. Down with the evil godless American commies!

- The AI tried to do a propaganda campaign (unsuccessfully) on one of my outlying cities (same deal, American communist gov't).

Now, perhaps this might have might have just been a one-time feature or something that typically happens in regent-level games (yeah, I know, I suck but I am slowly adapting to Civ3 style gaming from Civ2/etc.). Any thoughts on this as to whether it is something new with the patch or has always been there?

I´ve noticed several times in 1.21 that the enemy tries to plant spies in my captial. However, it has always failed, and every time I try to counterspionage my spy gets caught. But it´s good of course, makes the gameplay much more interesting.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. The AI had tried to plant a spy and failed. I had never seen the message before.

I must say, this was the first game I actually used the whole espionage for actual game-altering purposes. I didn't use any of the expensive city-specific options but I did use it for stealing technology (twice) and also for the general military info. The stolen tech saved me from letting the AI build the UN (whew, next time I'll turn off the diplomatic victory) and allowed me to keep up on the spaceship race.

Plus there was the little matter of nuking/invading the Chinese capital to destroy there spaceship.....

That's not new. I have seen AIs doing that since the original version of Civ3 without any patch.

hi ,

only with 1.21 the AI tends to use it more , and when you have been at war for a long time , or a lot of times with a civ , that civ shall want any contact with you

have a nice day
