City Names
Read this before you vote!
I would like to do 2 things.
First, simplify 2 city names. Second, honor former President Shade with a city name.
The first part is the 2 cities that we moved slightly. The citizens of those cities wish to return to the original names. Their argument is that they merely moved their city, not re-established them. I have to agree that there is something to be said for the original names. "Neo" and "New", however well-intentioned, get in the way and can confuse things with the first 3 letter similarity.
The second part is to continue a habit established many turns ago. In traditional Civilizations, coins are used to honor previous leaders. We do not have that opportunity here. Instead, we have named cities. I think that is a fine tradition and we should continue it.
But we have an awkward situation. One of the forward cities is already named "Shadow", and not after our previous President. Normally, it could be renamed, yet the pair have such a perfect match that I am reluctant to change them. Still, "Shadow" starts with the same letters as "Shade" and that would cause confusion also.
So, I propose that "Shadow" be renamed "Darkness" (to fit with "Light"), and that Rivertown be renamed "Shade".

I suggest we call it Shadeskigrad or Shadegrad. Get rid of the Neo and New, and change Shadow to Darkness.

I agree to the middle opinions but we should name our next city Rivertown or what "shade" will be! And get rid of Neo or new!

Neo & New = Change back!
Darkness =
Rivertown = Leave it alone!
Elephantine = suggested future "Shade" for it was under his reign that our plan of conquest was hatched. One of the proposed new city sites would be OK too.
...and history demands that we not forget BloomIII

seems like I vote different from the rest of our ppl.
I say leave Rivertown alone.(It has it's name,we know where it lies and if we start changing names dramatically every new governement it will become total confussion for everyone...even the ministers)
You can get rid of the Neo and New(actually they both mean new)...I just added this to show it weren't the original cities...but as cities grow they may encompas their former grounds.
About Shadow and Light I just ask you to say this out loud
Shadow and Light
or
Darkness and Light
Wich wone sounds best???
(probably No 1) that's the reason why they are called that way.
You can say that you want to honor me by naming a city after me and that then those first 3 letter might give some confussion...but have you all forgotten Shaka Naldur...or will he not be honored.
Shade

I know but who says he will stay citizen forever? Maybe he will be president again(or do some other job and make a crucial decision)that make's us consider naming an other city after him.
What will we call it?Naldur's town? Nalduria secundus?
Or shaka city?
all three give 'problems' for the units-home...
I think we should rather take some time(or the president should) to take a look at our cities and which city has wich unit and where hey are stationed.(always nice to rehome some units to stay out of problems)
==> So dear historian don't worry about my mind it's still working great. I just don't see the fuss all are making.

That's a good name...no problem with those first 3 letters, not 1 English word even uses that combination to start(as far as I know)...and there will be at least 2 ppl who can pronounce it: me and MdS.
I love it.(would be nice in this row: Umbra, Shadow, Schaduw... )

I have no problem with naming a city directly after me,I don't use the 3letter shortcut for units(If I want to know where it comes from just click )

Sounds good to...but I like "Schaduw" beter...but don't let this hold any-one back to name eg 2 cities after me:
"Schaduw" and "Not-Shade"

about the city-renaming shouldn't we limit that to foreign conquered cities?(I'm afraid this, what we are doing now, might lead to a renaming race each time we get a new prez...)
This is really like for impatient kids,we want to honor someone and we want to do it now,immediatly,now... why can't we just wait untill we build new cities or conquer other ones.(there are many to be build and to conquer,I guess it should not be a problem to have ~5 to 10 new cities(conquered and build) at the end of this term.)
=> like our wise historian said in an other thread:
"Patience, Grasshopper. Patience."
these are my last words on this topic.

I have an even better idea-why don't we let the minister of Imperial Expansion decide new names for cities? Heh heh heh.
