Survey: How many Sid games have you played?
I just noticed Yin's message in the ohter thread. It got me thinking of which Sid games I have played and so this survey.

First I quote a part of Yin's message (+add SMAC&SAMCX):

Silent Service (1985)
F-15 Strike Eagle (1985)
NATO Division Commander (1985)
Conflict in Vietnam (1985)
Crusade in Europe and Decision in the Desert (1985)
Sid Meier's Pirates! (1987)
Red Storm Rising (1987)
F-19 Stealth Fighter (1988)
Gunship (1989)
Railroad Tycoon (1990)
Sid Meier's Civilization (1991)
Sid Meier's Covert Action (1991)
CPU Bach (1993)
Sid Meier's Colonization (1994)
Sid Meier's CivNet (1995)
Sid Meier's Civilization II (1997)
Magic: The Gathering (1997)
Sid Meier's Gettysburg! (then) Antietam! (1997)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire
So how many of these have you at least tested?

Some results
25 voters counted sofar and most mentions sofar has received:

25 players:
- Sid Meier's Civilization II (1997)

24 playres:
- Sid Meier's Civilization (1991)

21 players:
- Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire

19 players:
- Railroad Tycoon (1990)

Games with no mention:
- NATO Division Commander (1985)
- Conflict in Vietnam (1985)
- Crusade in Europe and Decision in the Desert (1985)

Average is 6.8 games/person and Bell&joseph1944 leads with 13 played/tested Sid-games.

Well I'll start.
I have tested/played numbers 1, 6, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16 and 19. (8/19)
Numbers 1, 6, 11, 16 and 19 have taken way too much of my valuable time...

The one game I hope to test in near future is number 18
(Haven't found the Civil war collection near me ... jet)

What makes this so special to me is that I didn't know who had made these games until the www.alphacentauri.com site was opened. It was quite a suprice to me discover that most of my favourite computergames was from Sid.

Well,

Sid Meier's CIVILIZATION

and

Sid Meier's CIVILIZATION II

and that suffices to make me a fan!

(I played SMAC at a friend's house and just didn't feel like buying it.)

I've played 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19...

And, yeah, Sid's taken too much of my life, too. When I'm old and gray and look back on my youth only to find my memories consist of nuking the Indian capital so they couldn't launch their spaceship, I'll know who to blame...

Not a single one, to any serious extent. Civ, RR Tycoon and Pirates, for a few hours each. For the ones I've played more, I consider Civ 2 and SMAC Brian Reynolds Games.

Civilization II(just once, I was young(I am that now too ) and didn't understand the fun. Well, I do it now, but I can't find any place they sells it.... So, I just have to wait until Civ 3 comes! ) and 19. Alpha Centauri(often, it is better than many in this forums think, well not all of it , but much .

Sid is the best, Sid lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

all but Magic:the Gathering have been very good

I do not own 18 but might purchase it later this year (firaxis sells both for 40 and it is a fun game)

I also do not own smacx but plan on buying it later too

I am not sure if you can count 16 and 19 as Sid Meier though

Before 1990 there were just a few PCs in Romania, so I didn't even heard of 1-9.

I played a lot:

Railroad Tycoon (1990) - hot summer, most part of my lunch time every day

Sid Meier's Civilization (1991) - on PC and Amiga

Sid Meier's Civilization II (1997) - first (and last) time I bought a version of a Sid game translated in italian instead of picking the original english version: bad, half-done translation it almost trash my Civ II enjoyment

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - the reason I started to post on .owo. forum, then on Apolyton - not bad after all

I never realised he had done so many other things! I was expecting to have played almost all of them.

Silent Service
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Red Storm Rising
Railroad Tycoon
Sid Meier's Civilization
Sid Meier's Colonization
Sid Meier's Civilization II
Magic: The Gathering
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

To the best of my knowledge Sid was brought in at a late stage to tweak the "adventure" game part of M:tG and had nothing to do with anything else. I think he did a pretty good job of that bearing in mind the rather limited nature of Magic vs an AI opponent (build deck, play a match, repeat.) For the same reason I have avoided his ACW titles - I couldn't face fighting the same battle over and over again.

Sid games that I have or have not played with some editorial comments…

6.Sid Meier's Pirates! - yes (sortof)

Started with Pirates!Gold. Civ2 is the only game that I played more than Pirates!Gold.

10.Railroad Tycoon - yes

Among the most-played game of all time for me.

11.Sid Meier's Civilization - no

I actually didn't start playing Civ until Civ2 MGE came out.

14.Sid Meier's Colonization - no

Only lasted 1 hour for me. Conquest of the New World is far, far superior.

16.Sid Meier's Civilization II - yes!!

400+ hours in 2 years (that's a lot for me, considering my limited game time)

18.Sid Meier's Gettysburg! (then) Antietam! - no

Worse games of all time (imo). Sid's Civil War collection is the ONLY game that I returned in 10+ years of buying games. These games are so bad (imo) that I couldn't stand to have them in my house.

19.Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire - no

No interest whatsoever because of their stupid sci-fi themes. Would have been better if these were just complex Civ2 scenarios.

I would have to disagree. It was good to see a new page in TBS. We can debate the pros and cons of SMAC all day, but just a complex Civ2 scenario. I'm sorry it was a great game and totally worth you at least giving it a try.

1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 on C-64 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 on my PC. On my C-64 Red Storm Rising, F-19, Gunship were the best. On the PC Civ 1, 2, RRT, SMAC the best. I would like to see them go back and look at Red Storm Rising for PC.

yikes, i'm surprised more people haven't played colonization. that game imo is just as good as civ1(not civnet though). if you haven't and want to you should search for colonization and abandonware.

Some replys are in order I think

First having the How many in the topic was an error. I should have used Which instead. This isn't a competition, I'm just curious.

Considering all the Sid stuff lately, thought this would be a good reminder of just how little we have to worry about with Sid in charge of Civ3.
