Victory conditions
Is it just me? Am I bloodthirsty?
I get no satisfaction by winning a game by Space Race, Culture or Domination. The only way I am satisfied with a victory is by conquest. I turn off all other victory conditions. My first 10 games I was able to build the tank only in one game, because I was declared the winner earlier.

I agree.

I got one cultural, one spaceship, one un, then never again. It seems that every time I leave them on at the start, in case can't win by force, I end up in a position of power where I can win, but have to stop due to culture. Sucks. Conquest is the way to go for me.

Hmm. I don't know how I feel yet about this yet. So far, I've won every way but feel that going for conquest just drags it out too much for me. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the conquest.

The most satisfying was winning by spaceship, because I got to see a cool video. The least satisfying was domination --- it was not anticipated and I had goals to meet. My favorite games have been those that have gone the distance where I enjoyed a slim lead on the histograph, prepared to attack a civs capital if they got too close to launching a spaceship. The UN is too risky for me --- I'm never liked by the majority it seems.

Caveman, it's clearly a warmonger! You just show off that you are a warmonger.

Dojoboy, as for UN, if you play Regent on higher, AIs can get mean about you.

Solver,
I'm definitely a warmonger, but I'm a peaceful?? warmonger. I try to maintain peace until Calvary. Then I take a civ or two and wait until Tanks. Take a few more and wait until Modern Armor. That's when I become a true warmonger. At Modern Armor, I pick off each civ in turn.
I'll usually leave a few cities in each civ, make peace and move on to the next. That way I can mop up everybody at one time and they are too small to pester me.

Caveman,

Maybe you're a builder warmonger? Do you build up your infastrcuture nicely before going to war with your Cavalry? Or do you just wait until Cavalry because you fear to be crushed?

Also, I believe that the true warmongers never sign peace. So perfectize your war skills.

I think that is the best way to do it I almost always go for conquest (or did I don't play Civ3 as much as I used to) but at the same time make sure that my infrastructure is solid.

Oh, but I agree, at the higher difficulties, Diplomatic is sometimes quite challenging. Maybe that's why I tend to try to kick their a$$es

Same here, but if I need the space I will go to war early to get it, or a luxry or resource. Early on, before cavalry, I have specific goals to my wars. I will try to take out weak civs once I get cavalry.

Plus, the most important thing for me is having the entire continent to myself.

I only like the Spaceship or Conquest victories. The others are less than satisfying.

Domination is dumb. Why stop at 2/3? Didn't the British control 3/4 of the world at one point? The sun never set on the British Empire. It's kaka poo poo.

Cultural isn't satisfying since the AI doesn't build much culture, so it will never win by this method.

UN is silly. You've been elected ruler of the world! Yay. Game over.

Spaceship at least gives you a sense of accomplishment. My people built the first spaceship to colonize another world.

Conquest is obviously satisfying. Who doesn't want to conquer the world?

The victory conditions basically parallel the rest of the game. After all, when you're not at war, you're either 1) cleaning up from a war, 2) preparing for war, 3) cleaning up after a war while preparing for another war, 4) moving around your hoarde of 150 workers manually (oh boy!), 5) moving the taxation/science bar back, and forth, and back, and forth, and... 6)requesting that the AI moves out of your territory... 5 times a turn to no avail, or 7, the greatest of them all: mining grasslands!

I like being elected ruler of the world, after massive corruption and treachery. Very good for my ego
As for culture : how are you achieving cultural victory ? It's my goal at each start of the game, and each time some Civ has more than 1/2 of my culture at the end... And I dislike wiping it out just to win "culturally".

In my book, space race is the easiest victory type to achieve - and the UN the hardest at Monarch +. I may miss something here, but I never won diplo at Monarch: the last game I tried, I bribed them constantly with tons of gold, techs, CITIES, having MPPs and all, AND I lost 3 to 2. Perhaps I should have never violated any treaty or declared war by myself in the earlier stages of the game ??? Even if I'm not a warmonger and more of a builder, the diplo conditions don't really match my gameplay style so I'm sticking to cultural, space, or retirement. I would like the domination on small maps, but I prefer the larger maps where the military victories are much too loooong to achieve.

I reckon Culutural victory is the easiest - I've won on that so many times I have to disable that option when starting up a new game!

I usually disable diplo victory for precisely the reasons that Master Marcus stated.

I have yet to win a cultural victory. Most of my wins are through retirement.
