CTPEd v0.2beta Release
Here it is: The first release version of CTPEd (in places reffered to as CTP Ed or CTP Edit or CTP Editor - I couldn't make my mind up ). The one and only CTP2 data file editing GUI.
CTPEd will (should! ) allow you to edit many of the various CTP2 data files (advance.txt, etc.) through a graphical interface to speed mod development, decrease the chance of errors and help in any other way I could think of and have had time to code.
Other features of note:
- A Great Library (GL) tool which allows use of templates to quickly generate many GL entries.
- The ability to quickly make mass changes to entries in a data file.
Should be available at:
http://ctpmodmakers.250free.com/JBTW/CTPEdit.zip
(current version 0.3.0beta - check the last available update on the thread and if that is a later version then download it after this)
Unzip to a temporary directory and run Setup.exe. The setup program is a bit crummy but appears to work. The default install path is in Program files - I recommend you change this to something like [Your CTP Path]\ctp_data\CTPEd\, but it's up to you.
Have a go, but remember:
READ THE README before you start! It will not correctly execute until you have followed the instructions therin.
If this screws your computer up, I'm sorry but hard luck. Backups are always a Good Thing.
This is tested only under Windows 95.
This is a beta version. Expect bugs.
READ THE README!
Have fun, and read the readme. Lots of feedback please. Bug reports and any other comments to this thread, or if you prefer privacy to jjb48@cam.ac.uk
You got that? Just to make sure: Read the readme, OK?

Any clue as to why the link doesn't work? I uploaded it there... Is there a file size limit on the server or something? It's only 2.5MB...

That's odd. Could you give the error more exactly? When did the error occur?

At what time during the installation? At the beginning, or when it was copying all the files t the end?

You can install to any directory. But it has to copy temporary files first - if you're getting the error at the beginning then it appears that is where the problem is. If you don't have permission to access the temporary directory (probably c:\windows\temp\) then it might well not work. I'm also using 95 so that shouldn't be a problem... I'll see what I can do.

I did read the readme and changed the CTPed.ini. Yet i get error 76 (path error).
I will give another try later.
But couldnt be possible to trigger a window after the installation is finished to the modder write/search the ctp2 base directory and from it the ini would change. No need to go over unknown text (ini) files.
Just a suggestion.

I got also this error, when I tried to load a gamefile.txt or tried to create a new project. Another error was connected to this version entry as I tried to open an file like GM1_goods.txt, I got the first line of this file and the program told me that it expected there a 0.1 instead of it.

Could you e-mail me a copy of the ini files so I can see what's going on.
Martin - It sounds like the program is getting confused between the structure file and data file. You shouldn't be able to open any goods.txt since there's no structure file. In any case, how did you try to open it if you can't create a new project or read from a gamefile.txt?

Actual just go on Project -> Open and change in the load box the file type from Project Files (*.cep) to All Files (*.*) and than browse through your saystem and load anything you can, you will get the error message that the first line is different from 0.1 and than CTPEdit quits.

Did you mean Activision?

And with regard to the error when opening other files - it's not surprising, since other files do not conform to the project file structure. That's exactly why I put a version check on the first line.

Yes, but also after fixing this I get the runtime error '76' Parth not found message, I also set the language version to german afterwards I attached the file. It still does not work.

OK, but the program should give me instead of this error message a more informative massage like "This file is not a valid CTP2 project file." and don't quit automaticly.
