I haven't played it for some time. Used to be good at it though. My record is something like 137 straight wins in a row.

Freecell was the game that turned a cheerful, optimistic little kid to the world-weary wreck that is now posting this message.

That and putting up with all those w ankers in the 'poly Coffeeshop.
In other news my mom's addiction to Freecell forced me to type a three-page paper in the library before class one time.

My wins have been stuck at 91% for years.
Here are some tricky games I've come across:
19013, 927, 22907, 29596, 20547, 322, 29564, 25375, 12469, 9123, 320, 3496.
Anyone got some other difficult games?

Seems like we enjoy all the same games, GP. Since I discovered freecell, I've probably spent more time on it than on bridge.

It took me the longest time to finally win a game of Freecell.
I think I can even rememer the year, 1998 or 1999. Probably '99.

FreeCell is always solvable. At least no game is yet found to be unsolvable.
My personal objective these days is to solve the game with as few cards on the top right piles as possible. That is, find the column(s) where most aces/low cards are, do not deconstruct that column beyond a key card barring the low cards above. (Am I clear?) Use the other columns to build nice runs from king and down. Your final move is to move the barring card to one of the long columns and watch the top right piles fill up automatic.
It can in theory be done without placing a single ace, all 52 cards are automatically moved to top after moving that barring card.
Personal best is three cards up, two aces, one two (several times).
Usually, I end up in the range five to seven cards
too much time,
C.

Game 11982 hasn't been solved yet!
You might like to try Freecell Pro, lots more games (over 4 billion) plus lots of other cool features.

I stand corrected, then.
I see from the FreeCell FAQ that my playstyle would be called to find the longest/best flourish.

When I worked for the government and was sitting on my butt for hours on end doing nothing (your tax dollars at work), I played Freecell non-stop. After a few months, my win-loss record was something like 1500-800 or some similarly ludicrous number. I did not bother to remember any tricky ones, though.

I was never that good with 57 wins and 90 losses. Many of those losses are results of me getting bored and just quitting before I really lost.

I'm totally addicted. I never replay losses. My win percentage always hovers around 90%.
Here the plan for getting the most wins in a row. Play a few times (winning them of course) and then reboot. Keep repeating. If you ever lose one, just power down your system and the losses won't be tallied
How's that for an addict?

I tried that for a while when I was going for most wins in a row. The 90% is without cheating (otherwise would be 100%)

You don't even need to reboot. Just press [ctrl]+[alt]+[del] to bring up the task manager, then click on "freecell game#..." and press "end task". When a dialog box comes up to ask if you want to quit the game, press "no" (otherwise the game will be recorded as a loss) then wait a few seconds. Windows will tell you that the program has stopped responding and you can now close the game.
Are you tempted to cheat now?

Even quicker, highlight the FreeCell entry in the process list and click on the end task button twice. Windows prompts you to terminate the process (the game) right away. No more waiting!

Ah, so NT users get an easier way to cheat.
Win 98 isn't so easy, I expect XP works the same way as 2000.

And, if you're really desperate, you can use regedit to go into the registry and change the values for wins and losses (not that I would ever do that, of course ). The "stype" field is for the current streak type -- 0 means losses; 1 means wins.

Actually, my registry gets pretty hosed up as it is, that is, without me messing with it. Case in point, just spend most of last night reformatting my C: drive and reloading windowz. But Thanks for the tip.
