There's an Xbox hands-on preview of Splinter Cell up: http://xbox.ign.com/articles/360/360254p1.html
That game looks sweet.

I have no idea, I'd assume it's fairly early.
Wasn't it just announced for GC the other week?
It was my understanding that it'd be developed for Xbox and ported to GC and PC.

KOTOR is coming to the Xbox, then PC, not GC (not sure if that was clear).
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is also coming to the Xbox first, then PC and PS2.
The Matrix was supposed to come out six months earlier on the Xbox, but now Infogrames bought the publisher and killer the deal so now Xbox just gets some other "features" which aren't named.

Jedi Knight 2 was announced for GC and Xbox today too, down the road. I have to wonder why...

Awesome! Now I don't have to take the chance of buying it for my PC.
Do you have anymore good news to pass along?

I see they're making a Deus Ex movie... what an odd choice, given the current climate regarding the government and terrorism.

Nah I'm too far.
GameSpy recapped and rated all three press conferences:
http://www.gamespy.com/e32002/specia...rs/index.shtml
They ranked them as following:
1. Microsoft (Xbox)
2. Sony (PS2)
3. Nintendo (Gamecube / Game Boy Advance)
Their summary:
Quote:
|
And the winner is ...
Microsoft did the most with its pre-show press conference. In terms of presentation, quantity, and quality, the company created more buzz than the rest. Sony's presser was splendid, but didn't have as many new and exciting games as Microsoft's did. Although it is the market leader, it came in second (albeit a close second) in the press-conference showdown.
And then there's Nintendo. The company might as well have played a tape of its 2001 press conference for half the show. Very little was new, and what was new wasn't terribly exciting. The first-party titles were known quantities from a buzz standpoint, so the company didn't give gamers any new reasons to buy a GameCube. Press conferences are staged to generate excitement, and Nintendo didn't have any new goods to do so. That coupled with its smooth-as-gravel presentation made for an awful press conference.
While these events are important in terms of setting the tone for each platform, it doesn't translate to each system's overall E3 showing. I've little doubt that Nintendo's booth will be the most crowded. Perhaps hundreds of PS2 games that weren't shown during the press event will capture our imaginations. But judging purely from the press events, the Xbox had the most to be excited about.

More DOOM III news I found:
http://www.consolewire.com/news/item.asp?nid=1683
Quote:
|
id Software CEO John Carmack announced the development of Doom 3 for PC and Xbox platforms. The announcement was made during the annual Quakecon, where Carmack also announced the development of Quake IV using the new Doom engine, which may also be coming to Xbox sometime down the road. According to the announcement, Doom engine will boast extremely high polygon models and realistic lighting. While commenting on the Xbox port of Doom 3, Carmack stated that PS2 would not be able to handle Doom 3 graphics without "sacrifices", while Xbox port will look just as good as the PC counterpart.

Booyah. Can't wait. This will be a boon for those people without 128MB GeForce 4s.

That is clearly one step forward in quality. Unreal II doesn't seem even close...

Game Eye was revealed at Nintendo's conference. Apparently, it's a device letting you scan pictures of eg. yourself and use them in certain games. Seems awesome.

What kind of games would you use a picture of yourself in? seriously?
And I thought it was some kind of webcam.
I wonder if it'll be another 64DD...

Beach Spikers...pshaw.
DOA3 Extreme Volleyball has dwarfed that at the show.
(bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey)
In all truth, the "Game Eye" will probably be just a bit higher quality than the GameBoy Camera.

And unlike Civ III we will be actually running the editor raise: there will be mods and maps galore, and soon.
and John Carmack Interview at
http://www.gamers.com/news/1156460
[q]
: The rendering engine is still my primary focus, and it has been a lot more interesting on this project than the last couple ones. At the fundamental level, the basic rendering paradigm hasn't really changed much in the industry since the original Quake-light mapped worlds and shaded characters. I am quite confident that the new Doom paradigm of discrete, projected lights, full-time bump mapping, and global unification of light-surface interaction will become the new standard. Once you experience the consistency of the Doom world, other games start to feel more like puppet shows.

And that will (not just maybe- I am pretty sure) make Gabe Newell and the rest at Valve to do TFC2 and HL2 on the new engine
There is a new era looming on the horizon.

The video's fairly impressive.
In other news, the assimilation continues: http://www.tremorgames.com/news2.html
MS has signed an agreement with Tremor Entertainment to produce content exclusive to Xbox under the Microsoft label (read: 2nd party).
Tremor was founded by ex-Blizzard employees who worked on such games as Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft.
MS has so much first and second party talent that once the fruits of these games start coming out by the holidays this year, I think it'll have a big impact on the industry. Mark my words.
