1) we use the classic fortune cookie unix program. it's archive is quite big, just think that it has 30kb of star trek quotes
2) we'll add civ-related quotes as soon as i find the way(asaiftw). unix-literate people are welcome to help
3) asap and asaiftw there will be way to pause and restart the redirect

ah ok, didn't know this was related.
I like 'em, but I still think they go to fast (at least, for the longer ones)
Can we add some? If so, how?

there are two files involved(for each category of quotes). the one is a simple text file with a simple format. the other is in some binary form...

I think it's not hard to do a pause. Just set a timer when the page is done loading. Seems like it can do the trick.

Oooh. I was wonder what that was. I made a reply earlier and I saw this box, and the only word I could make out before the screen was gone was "jail".

What happened to the old quotes? Were they deleted, or do you still have the file in another format?

i can do that already, but not all people want to read the quote and would hate having to wait 2-3 extra seconds every time. the "pause" would be "man-controlled"....

Cant you add an option in the control panel where you select how many seconds you want it delayed?

I like the quote, but I can barely read it before it is gone. Cable modem is too fast, maybe I should log on using a 56k?

My 56k is too fast.
Wow, did I really say that?

me likey!
The quotes tend to flash by a little fast, even when I'm using my 56k connection at home. If an optional timed delay could be put in then that would make things even better.

Yes, Gramphos has the best idea. That way at the beginning we can set it for a couple of seconds, then once we get tired of it we can change it back to 0.

Firstly, it's great!
Second, I suspected you're using the Fortune from Unix... some nice quotes in that database, I remember delving right in it.

I remember this one, it was on the thanks reply page. But IIRC it was dead instead of demise, unfortunatly I don't know any place were I could look it up.
There was also one on the thanks for editing page but I can't remember that one, I did not saw it as often as the first one you mentioned.
And now to the next quote but first press submit reply...

What does the pause button do? Wouldn't the screen stay there until the user presses the forward button?
P.S. That's an ugly setup
