Lazy Horse stays in monarchy too long
Maybe I'm not taking some recent games seriously enough but I just couldn't be bothered switching to Republic or democracy - too much micro. I watch the odeo years roll up and just go "nup, maybe next time"

Staying in Monarchy's a real trap I fell into after playing SP for relief from the tedium of work. You can cream the AI in Monarchy. But it makes life a tad difficult in MP games.

Well, we can't disagree with the latter.

One can go straight to Republic in Deity, if you dedicate everything to making it work, but it's more of a hassle than it's worth.

I have to agree with slow. I always chuckle when I see opponents go straight for rep in 1x deity. But a lot of good players do so. Perhaps some will explain their thoughts here.

Without making any assumptions here, I find that in a hutless game going straight to Rep is fine especially using Gold squares and reverse growth. You can be in Rep in the second Millenium with irrigated squares and ready to rapidly grow.

In a hut game it depends on the techs you acquire. I go to Monarchy about 1/3rd of the time depending on situation.

One reason I stay in Deity is to make my turns shorter - I'm always thinking of my playing partners

The only problem I can think of about going straight to republic is having the cities and infastructure ready to take advantage of WPTPD. I mean assuming you run straight to republic, and avoid monarchy and get republic very early, how often do you have 7 cities with roads and irrigation ready to go? I guess it depends.......

That's just it you dont. Upon hitting rep you can use 40% lux and keep size 2's content up to 8 cities and have temples in some core cities. You might be able to wtlkd a couple early on, but very few. Expansion is slow, future temple building is slow.

In 3 or 4 player games I usually go Monarchy and build at least 12 cities before switching. In duels even later. But as I said before it's generally good players that do the straight rep. thing, so there's probably something to it. Even in duels I've seen very early republics from some great players.

A few weeks ago i built 3 wonders before 1000 bc on 1x 1x diety.. With no help from huts or others.

If you want to build huge amounts of wonders before 1ad go monarchy. If you want to gain a huge tech lead + gold go republic.
