What are you studying and where?
It's me again and my lame threads as usual. But i'm seeking for information again.
I was just thinking about studies. I was thinking of studying computer science or something that has to do with economics.
Then i realized i could come to US to study.. would be great experience and all. I tested myself and took SAT (not the real one, just a test one) and it was quite easy, so i think i'd do well there too.
So what do you guys study and where? Would you recommend your school? I'm trying to narrow down the options, as there are endless possibilites.

My major is History and I'm currently an undergraduate student.
I plan to become a professor after graduate school, and right now, I'm at St. Ambrose University in eastern Iowa of United States.
Not sure where I will be for graduate school.

I wonder if there will ever be an AI in games that doesn't include cheating.

give it time. i am honestly in awe over black and whites AI structure, i'd really love to see the source some day.
the way the creature learns what you do, then mimicks it until it does it the same way, is simply amazing.
i'm fairly sure it can be made quite simple, if the creature is watching, it will get every object in order, ie:
hand
person
throw
water
if you taught it to throw your people in the water.
the brilliance in the AI is that it takes into count the chance fo mistake, you have to repeditely show the creature how to do something, so they can compare existing lists of objects / actions over time, and figure out what you want it to do.
the only problem is that the AI wouldnt be able to learn fast enough in civ, especially for an early warmonger like myself.
the AI would have to learn from game-to-game, not just turn-to-turn. such an AI would present a challenge to the player, but may be a pushover to another. IE a civ thats used to a peaceful builder may get taken advantage of by a warmonger in another game.
the only way to make an AI that can actually compete with a human player is to make it think, flat out. the best thing we can do now (without cheating) is to teach the AI strategies. no matter hwo good they are, the human will eventully pick up on them, see patterns, and destory the AI every time, because we learn while they dont.
until that day, until the computer analyzes yuo the same you you do it, the AI will always be lesser than a human player.
and they'll charge you another $50 for multiplayer.

post-doctoral work, chemistry, Caltech.
If you wanna go into computer science, I can recommend Caltech, but it's a ***** to get into. :-)
Did my PhD at Notre Dame, Indiana. Also known as 'hell on earth'. Don't go there whatever you do.

Senior at University of Hawaii-Manoa on the island of O'ahu in U.S.A.
Studying for bachelor's in psychology, minoring in sociology.
Going for master's in criminology or criminal justice but UH-Manoa does not have such a program.
I would not suggest coming to UH-Manoa unless you are going to major in bio-engineering, genetics, or anything dealing with biology. UHM caters to these fields and practically neglects all other fields of study within the college.

Graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majored in economics, minored in math (1999).
Just completed my Master of Public Affairs degree (graduated this past Saturday ) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specialized in economic policy.
Will be attending Michigan State University this fall, working towards my PhD in economics.
A bit of advice: if you're interested in pursuing graduate economics someday, and you want to get into a good program, DO NOT go to UW-Whitewater for your undergrad. Despite having nearly a perfect academic record at Whitewater, I wasn't able to get into a decent graduate economics program, which is why I came to Madison to do a Master's first. Madison is excellent in economics, both undergrad and grad (#10 in the country). Michigan State is good too (#25).

I'm getting my visions more clear now, thanks for your help.
Your education is a bit ... expensive . I'll have to turn to my university of computer science, and get to the transferprogram, so they'll fund my 2-3 years in there. I'm kind of thinking of Stanford.. but then again i don't know yet.
Thank God it's free of charge here. What can you say, we're evil commie bastards.

I don't follow a normal program though, since I'll work fulltime during 1.5 years of my education.

Mathematics (second year of undergrad for another 4 weeks or so) at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University (Britain - duh).
Apparently, one of the MIT transfer students we get over for maths had to ask her supervisor what the equation of a parabola was. What do they teach you over there?
