'I shall be a good boy and build Colossus in AdvancedTribe and refrain from prebuilding elephants. I shall build settlers (roadbuilders please, not citybuilders) and more caravans in order to build Marco.'
Short log:
650BC: Colossus completed in AT; our horseman killed by a horde of barbs, west of WhyHere, will be awarded the Medal of Honour since he seems to be the first MIA in the history of our kingdom; Polytheism discovered (we decide to research Writing)
600BC: We give WhyHere to the barbs (which should secure us a nice source of cheap NON horsemen)
500BC: Marco should be completed next turn and Writing discovered at the same time; La Fayette refrains from 'forgetting'
that his reign is already longer than 10 turns and gives his successor the pleasure to build Marco (and preferably make good use of it )

FearlessMage, then SG [1], then you, MN...
My thoughts on Settlers in DK... normally I would grow the city, but I'd like to improve some of the terrain, to grow it faster. A Settler in Trop. Resort would slow that city down too much... (and besides, I'd rather use TR for Caravans) so I'd sacrifice 1 point of pop temporarily, build some roads/irrigation around DK, and then add the settler back to it before size 8. That assumes, of course, that we don't get Republic and WLT*D before that point.
Anyway... by all means make that Settler a Caravan... or perhaps a soon- to- be elephant!

I hate to say this - but the game I d/led and played bears no resemblance to the one reported above - and yet it does Fearless did you post the correct save game???
Ah - the slime print of the PolitBuro is clear to see:
Internal Economy - a shambles, No, I tell a lie, it doesn't exist so it can't be a shambles - we have yet to discover Trade
Happiness - we have the Gardens - and we used to have a Temple in a size 2 city before I sold it - tenuous I would say
Martial Law - we have two, yes 2, Warriors! The rest of our armed forces are fat overpaid Phalanges and Archers
Solution - let's have a war - yes that will cheer everybody up and make lots of money - Oh why didn't I think of that
Just one tiny little snag ... has anyone looked at the mortality rates of green Ellies against fortified Phalanges? Where are the Barracks?
Our's not to reason why, just paint 'With me or On me' on the number plate and let's get it over with ...
200 -- Sell spurious Temple, rush Ellie in Rome?
175 -- Start moving Phalanx shock troop towards Germany
150 --
125 --
100 -- Germans give us 175g for war chest! Rush Market in Rome?
75 -- Market in Rome?
50 -- 125g from Germans
25 -- 75g from Germans
1 -- Germans declare war - silly people ...
25 -- Berlin falls 19g + Warrior Code
I humbly submit to the Praesidium that I have truly discharged my part in the glorious 250 year plan. Our glorious forces have captured the evil German's capital, built 2 Barracks and 2 Marketplaces and has are poised to end once and for all the German threat to our People's Democratic Free Empire
Hint to the People's successor - move the Phalanges up to the city first - this will blunt any attack they may have - then send in the ellies ...

I gave that city of Whyhere to the barbs in order to provide cheap NON units. Please, don't kill those barb horsemen: buy them (the bribing cost is low and it is very nice to send them scouting).

Fearless, rather than play the same turns over again if you've lost the save, why not switch places with SG [1]... that way you don't have to play the same turns over again, SG plays after La Fayette and you follow SG? Keeps things interesting for everyone

I humbly submit for the Politburo's derision my poor attempt to further the lot of the People ...
Well - apart from building wonders all over the universe (just like the AI) we seem to be in fairly good shape. Time to build a capital.
500 -- not a lot
475 -- 50g from Germany; Rootytoot revealed as a 4 special sweet spot
450 -- Writing select Literacy
425 -- DK gains back its Settler now 4; Beads TR-DK 24g; Hides DPT-DK 24g; AT horseman dispatches barb Archer and becomes vet; Luxuries to 20%, DK & AT celebrating;
400 -- SeaFaring from hut; City of Useful Hut discovered;
375 --
350 -- Copper DPT-AT 20g; Germans 50g;
325 -- Marketplace in DK; Settler joins DK now 5; Coal (undemanded) DK-AT 30g;
300 -- Marco Polo's Embassy - and the bloody AI has no useful techs - peace all round
275 -- 50g from hut; Temple in DK; DK now 6
250 -- Literacy select Philosophy - time to go

To make it completely clear, it must be added that, if I had been playing alone, I would of course have researched Writing ASAP.
The fun with a succession game is that you may start something foolish and your successors make it reasonable, but you may also start something reasonable and your successors make it foolish.
In this respect, all succession games are MAD .
