PBEM, Direct Play, Mods, and Cheating
I was just thinking of Firaxis's work on SMAC. SMAC had a text file approach to user configuration of games rules and faction attributes. Problem was that their was no way to embedded changes into one game save file. That meant that in PBEM, you would have to send out not only saves, but configuation files which each player would have to load manually before and after they played their turn. Of course no one did that.
So, in Civ3 how will this work. Having not gotten under the hood of the game, can someone tell me if this so called bic. file is going to be embedded in the save for PBEM play. There seems to be a huge interest in modding Civ3 relative to SMAC.
Unless Firaxis has set all of this up differently for Civ3 than it did for SMAC it will not be feasible to play MP mods.
Likewise, the lack of embedding configurable options in the save has tremendous implications for cheaters.
Does anyone know what the status of this is?
