Wonder movies
As a tribute to the loss of wonder movies in Civ3, why don't you post your favourite movies from previous entries in Civ series (including SMAC and CtP)?
Personally, the UN and Adam Smith movies from Civ2 are favourites, as are the Space Elevator, Virtual World and Nanofactory movies from SMAC.

well the Hoover Dam is near and dear to my heart. But that is because of its proximity
Manhatten project was always good
I liked Bach's Cathedral as well
Pyramids is an oldie but goodie
There was one in SMAC I really liked, but its been too long

civ2 - when u build manhattan project, u hear that explosion noise followed by the wonder song. that was cool. and also when u build leonardo's workshop, u get the mass unit upgrades, that was cool too. smac had many good wonder movies but what was best were those quotes about each technology u discover

Were the movies in Civ 2 included in the original Civ 2 classical? If so, where. please? I don't have MGE or FW, just the basic.

Of course. Did you actually buy a copy or did you warez it?
Every time you built a waonder, the wonder movie would play. There was an option to turn it off. Perhaps you toggled it without realising?

Oh, and I think they would only play when you're playing with the Civ2 CD in the drive...

I loved Leonardo's in Civ2, and The Colossus.
From SMAC: nanofactory, weather paradigm and dream twister.
I did not like the movies in CTP2, they were rather bland and boring.

Adam Smith's, Darwin's Voyage, and the UN are my faves.
The SMAC wonder movies were a little too irreverent, I thought... probably just in comparison to the majesty of the ones in Civ II, though.
CTP was more of a fraternity stunt than a game.

And I agree with Minmaster, those quotes that played when you discovered new techs were one of the best things about SMAC. They really should've taken the time to incorporate that into Civ III, but oh well. Maybe they'll do it for Civ IV? ^_^

I bought a copy; $10US at Target (Of course, now you can buy it at Sam's Club for $7US). I had problems originally when I reloaded the game, which caused all my advisors to be black screens with no voices. Then my wife moved the CD; it took me six months to find it again. By this time, I had Civ 3. I had uninstalled it before realizing the CD was not in its case. So, I have reinstalled it. Like I said, it is the classical version. I have reloaded it yet again, full install. I will build a Wonder and see if it happens. Are these movies on the CD, and if so where?
I would like for Civ 3 PTW to have movies, but they haven't mentioned it, so probably not.

Scary stuff.

Darwins Voyage was probably the most beautiful
and I always liked Leonardo's background music
both from civ2 of course.
They were actual movies, put together like a collage, nothing can beat that, nothing!

"We must dissent..." Only reason I ever left the movies turned on in SMAC. Well, that and Morgan doing jumping jacks.
Honestly, I think the movies are pure, unnecessary fluff. Don't miss them in the least.

Fluff is nice if you have the hardware capacity for it. I have, so it's ok for me, but I guess some other people are not that keen on it.
I'd rather have the efforts spent on AI algorithms (Soren has done a pretty good job already, but software can always be improved) or graphics that enhance the gameplay in general, like your terrain mod, for example (thanks, by the way).

Jeez, how could I forget the Self-Aware Colony? Actually, I think I did not forget it... I just did not want to remember it!
And, as Sn00py said, fluff is good.

Civ II: Leonardo's.
SMAC: Maritime Control Center.
Most of all, I miss the excellent SMAC'S voiceovers in my Civ sessions.

That was the original problem. I didn't download it the second time. Then it would not let me download it, so I had to uninstall, later reinstall complete. I just completed the Lighthouse, finally saw a movie.

SMACs voiceovers when you biuld a base facility or discover a new tech were awesome, pure fluff, but we all love fluff......

Hunter-Seeker Algorithm, and Nethack Terminus. Clinical Immortality (I thin kthat's the one with Morgan doing Jumping Jacks) is great too.
I also kinda wished Civ had the monument type thing from SMAc, where it records all of your firsts (first military unit, first vicotry, etc). However, like SE, it wouldn't fit with the Civ atmopsphere.

hi ,
the main reason that there are no movies is so that they can put the time and money in to the development of the game , .....
however there are some people working on some movies and in about six months there shall be a way to put the movies from civ2 in civ3 , ........aldo not as a firaxis project , just some people who like to make movies in there spare time , .......
have a nice day
