New challenge?
Is there much interest in a new challenge?
Having just played Combo's challenge and enjoyed it, I'd like to start a thread for a new challenge, but with a difference.
Some unusual settings would be fun, I suggested starting on an island in a medium/large world as this is usually unlikely and against most expansionist/warlike strategies. It also requires intelligent use of naval units/techs, which is missing in most small games or early strategies.
But we could also try the requirement to have built/captured all ancient wonders by a certain date, or various other winning requirements.
Maybe an anti-war stance, i.e. the American style ideal of educating the rest of the world to democracy whilst policing their foriegn policy... perhaps 20 turns of peace with all 7 civs as democracy? Needs some thought, but an empire building, world policing and peaceful challenge would be fun and unusual if worked out correctly (IMHO).
Any ideas?

I'm up for a new competition. Here is a suggestion: A maximum score game with the following rules to avoid tedium:
1) Minimum(25x40) sized world to reduce the number of cities.
2) No food caravans allowed to build up population.
3) No engineer terrain transformations. Only allow
jungle/swamp to be converted to forest/grassland.
4) No restarting, peeking, etc.
5) Allow airbases.
6) Allow caravan re-homing.
All start from the same save game. A 2,42 game is best, so both 2.42 and mge players can participate.
I have done some of these. It takes a good evening to conquer the world, and another to max out and finish the game. The micro world will give you some ugly terrain.

Not a bad idea, but not for me...
I don't really enjoy this type of game, score maximising is something I got tired of a long time ago... all that micromanagement etc.
I wanted something unusual.. a new take on challenge games, of some kind, a new concept. hmm.

Score...........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................ I think Graag was on the right track. A medium/large archipelago small land conquest game might be fun.

I have been thinking of making a scenario where you start with just 1 unit(not a settler!)...but how to do it without giving a city?
Maybe stick a settler on a 1 square island and make a house rule.Or make a remote city incapable of producing anything....

You people can have a try at the 'Jules Verne' scenario , playing as the Aborigenes, in the meantime. Provides you with a nice challenge. Have a look at my thread if you will, then play the first 20 turns or so...

Deep South
Here is a game, which you may find fun! You start on a Giga Map 181 x 181 squares … raging hordes/deity/7 civs - no restarting civs.
However, your tiny continent has not many squares out of the 32761 available and you are stuck very close to the South Pole. There is little habitable land close by on which to expand your empire.
Now play on …

There a zero city challenge being tossed about at CF.Very similiar to what we tryed here last year or so but an expansion on the challenge.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...687#post299240
You build no cities, wonders or improvements.Units only.Everything must be captured including your first city.

Yeah, that sounds like the no city challange we did before. If the ai didn't build a coastal city, it was over quick. It was funny how many techs units and money you'd get by the time you took that first city.
It didn't turn out very difficult though.

This is harder in that you can only build units. You want vets?..you need to wait for the ai to build Sun's and capture it or get lucky and get a city with barracks. You'll need to capture happy wonders to get out of Monarchy or run huge luxuries. You can't sleaze cuz you can't build cities.
on a giga map it would be a challenge.

lol thanks, I only really contact people through icq, so add me.
Its always good to play someone new.
I remember the no city challenge we played... fun but surprisingly easy... don't remember only building units though, could add a new angle of difficulty.
I started the gigagame. Going well, I only fear the key is trade, which I am only begining to master. My exploration goes quite well and my civ size, but I'm worried I'm not up to speed on trade. Will be very curious to see how other people played this one. I've recently gone early rep, having huge happiness problems... HG on the way...

Of course, it didn't work because I tried to play 2.42. It works like a charm with my UCC CD. I have played past 1AD and shall post a few details within a few minutes.

Some details at 1AD
OK it's a tiny island, but quite hospitable.
I have built Col, HG and Marco, but the Roman civ remains a small one: 5 cities, 27 squares worked and 25 shields/turn.
Come on smash! I bet you can beat that .
BTW SG2 do you wish early conquest or early launching?

I have started the deep south game, and am doing well. My small island has built many wonders. A couple of interesting observations: Barbarians did not show up until very late in the game. No matter, I was prepared for them. I kept my initial four cities for a long time. Marco polo's showed that my rivals did not expand like they could have on a large map. Late in the game, I sent a trireme and a settler and found the english lands. I started building cities there, and only then did my rivals match me.

The problem with this is the ai is also stuck on small islands.
My first goal was Mapmaking and The Lighthouse(duh). Then Marco's.Here I traded much, gifted, demanded tribute and shared maps.
I traveled the poles until Lighthouse and found unihabited land pretty quick.Soon settlers were sailing their way to form new colonies.
Its going along almost like a normal game.At 1 ad:
12 cities(5 on mainlannd)
23 techs
Lighthouse,Marco's and Cope's.128 sheilds of Mich's finished.
500,000 square miles
870,000 citizens
47 squares(including city centers)
51 sheilds produced

Either...go where you think the game leads you. I will probably try conquest as I've just taken Athens (Sun Tzu) and bribed Sparta (Great Wall). However, I'm well past 1AD!

I will also do conquest most likely.I captured The Wall in Athens, and, along with my War Academy,it seems logical to conquer.
Closing in on 1000AD though and only 1 civ down.Navigation and Magellan's on board so I can get to them a wee bit quicker.

I knew this would happen, since ALL my early scouts got killed by barbs. You are sure going to play a winning game (at least compared to mine ). Do you intend to rehome caravans?
