Everybody list a band(s) you think everyone else should try
I mean, now that they're shutting AGgie and Kazaa down, it's a good time for final download rush, especially since everyone else might think so, too, and you might find actually find something there. So, since no-one would ever use those networks for porn or something else legal, and it's always helpful for other people to tell you what to think, I started this thread so we all can get some hints for what to download.
I want people to tell a bit about the bands, too, not just list it - that way, we can actually decide for ourself whether it sounds good enough to DL or not. And don't tell about bands other people have already suggested
And if there are anti-filesharing prissies, they may buy the records or steal them the old-fashioned way or whatever. NO, MING, PLEASE DON'T CLOSE MY THREAD, IT'S ALL LEGAL, SEE?
I'll start with... well, Dead Kennedys, of course. Californian hardcore punk (except I've never thought of them as hardcore, since hardcore mostly sucks and Dead Kennedys don't) from start of the eighties. The band plays very well, you just have to love the way Jello Biafra sings, and lyrics manage to be funny without being empty-headed and intelligent without being preachy. For starters, try
Dead Kennedys California Über Alles
Dead Kennedys Holiday in Cambodia
Dead Kennedys Kill the Poor
Dead Kennedys Moon over Marin
Dead Kennedys Halloween
Dead Kennedys Trust your Mechanic
Dead Kennedys Straight A's
(See? I even put them in easy-to-copy-paste-and-download format! Aren't I nice?)

I was considering checking into them. I heard a song by them in some weird schizo-esque movie one late night, and it sounded kewl.
I have?

People, remember to tell a bit about the bands! "They're punk" isn't enough, since there's a wide range of punk from Dead Kennedys to crap.

IIRC They're just shutting down the Dutch company Kazaa, who sold the Kazaa network/software (?) to Sharman Networks which has relocated to some small exotic island, so you'll be able to download stuff from Kazaa for a long time
Starflam:
-Ce Plat Pays
-La Sonora
Milk Inc:
-Never Again
-Sleepwalker
Joculatores Upsalienses - Falalalan
Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise
The Village People - Go West
Feeder - Buck Rogers
Gigi d'Agostino - The Riddle
Manu Chao - Me Gustas Tu
If you understand Dutch:
Spinvis - Voor Ik Vergeet
Ivan Heylen - De Wilde Boerendocher

Let me extol the virtues of Bad Religion, my favourite punk group, and have been on the go for a damn long time. The band that brought the punk scene back to life in the late 80s with their album 'Suffer' which would have probably died a death otherwise, and formed the basis of modern punk, without which none of your modern punk bands such as Offspring, Green Day or Pennywise, to name a few, would ever have existed. Plus the lead guitarist, Brett Gurewitz was responsible for founding Epitaph, now a large punk label, without which many of the newer punk bands would have had never had a platform to perform on either.
Recommended tracks:
Bad Religion - You
Bad Religion - I Want To Conquer The World
Bad Religion - Do What You Want
Bad Religion - Suffer
Bad Religion - Modern Man
Bad Religion - Anesthesia
Bad Religion - Generator
Bad Religion - Atomic Garden
Bad Religion - Heaven Is Falling
Bad Religion - Marked
Bad Religion - Leaders And Followers
Bad Religion - Punk Rock Song
Bad Religion - Against The Grain
Bad Religion - F**k Armageddon, This Is Hell.
Bad Religion - American Jesus
Bad Religion - Kyoto Now!
Bad Religion - 21st Century Digital Boy
Quite a comprehensive list, pick and choose, or download the lot if you have the bandwidth

I would be tempted to blame them for that, but then some bastard like Snapcase would start blaming the Pixies for all the boring Pixies imitators.
On the other hand, you seem proud of it... .

Yes, there are some who cite it is something to be proud of, and others not. But I think that any band that inspires others should be proud.

Yay! I have one song from every person's list Apart from Laz's
I'll say:
Green Day (but if you haven't heard them already, you don't deserve to )
Less Than Jake (ska punk at its finest)
The Eels (especially Mr E's Beautiful Blues, and Susan's House)
The Foo Fighters

Modern Lovers. Possibly the key "missing" link between The Velvet Underground and late 60s Underground and mid-70s Punk. Plus pioneered any number of other genres, from Nerd-Rock to Straight-Edge. Musically aikin to The velvet Underground really, but lyrically very unusual, humorous, introvert and personal, vulnerable, angry and defiant, and slightly socially conservative in a Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society or Pet Sounds kind of way.
Songs to get:
Hospital
She Cracked
Pablo Picasso
I'm Straight
Someone I Care About
Roadrunner

Well you're all sh!t out of luck when it comes to my selection, because AG now appears to have blocked every BR song...so you'll have to work around it...

What do you mean by that?
How? When? Why?
I recently invested in a zip drive, to take advantage of the high download speeds in my faculty. I can download 300MB in 45' there. Don't tell me that it's over, like Napster was!
Oh, and I suggest Body Count. They're black, they're angry, they're rockin and rappin. If you like Rage Against the Machine, they are more original. Try these for a start...
BodyCount is in the House
Cop Killer
Strippers
Dead Man Walking
Violent Demise
I also like Ronnie James Dio, Ritchie Blackmore, Savatage and Statovarious for ballads.
For paiktis: get everything you can from Asimos and Panousis!

I'd have to go with my favorite band of all time: Joy Division.
British rock band whose career was short and yet very influential. Started in 1977 under the name Warsaw, influenced by punk. They changed their name to Joy Division in 1978 and in 1979 they released their first album, "Unknown Pleasures". Polished by producer Martin Hannett, their sound started to deviate from punk standards, presenting dark and moody songs, frequently depressive, with wonderful lyrics by singer Ian Curtis. Their second album, "Closer", was released shortly after Ian Curtis commited suicide, in May 1980. They have influenced a lot of other post-punk bands, and their remaining members started anew under the name New Order.
Songs:
Disorder
Love Will Tear Us Apart
Transmission
Atmosphere
Isolation
A Means to an End
Passover
Atrocity Exhibition
The Eternal
Decades
Day of the Lords
New Dawn Fades
She's Lost Control
I Remember Nothing
Twenty-Four Hours
(just to name a few)

maybe ethno stuff.. which is more about melody then lyrics.
but the group I recommended has some great commie ballads if you have good connection I reccomend you try them out, maybe you ll like it despite you dont know the words ... I would translate some, but I wouldnt be doing them right
like I liked Ska-P, they are spanish group or something, I have no idea what they are singing about, but there was something about the revolution and the songs are cool (get one or two of theirs too)
oh and little oldfashioned but I recommend Dubliners to everyone (irish). this is timeless music and they sing about the drink and ireland and woman.. you cant but like it (I missed two of their concerts in my town I m angry as hell)
