Our World in 1640AD
The Tale of the Years - 1640 AD
1520 - (Before ending turn) Changed Colosseums to Libraries, started Rivertown Crusader toward pick-up point, and rushed Crusader in Shade. Adjusted Workers to increase science. Tech advance rate down to 4!
1530 - India government becomes Monarchy. Heliopolis sends out a Catapault to the Pheasant square, and we kill it with Crusader. Trireme picks up Settler and Crusader near Nova Hispania. Three Triremes head toward Shade.
1540 - Egypt gets Bridge-Building, Romans get University. Romans take Girba (unknown Carthaginian city), and get Astronomy for it. We discover Explosives, and all Settlers upgrade to Engineers! Available techs are Bridge, Feudalism, University, and Medicine, no Navigation. I choose Feudalism (poll results).
1550 - Tech rate increases to 5 turns, but we have several Libraries in progress. Discover Carthaginian city "Ruscade". American Crusader moves onto Heliopolis Pheasant and we kill it. No vet status gained.
1560 - Embassy established with Americans (at Washington). From the same Trireme, we establish trade route from Umbra; gain 232 gold and at least 1 full turn science research. Triremes still approaching Shade.
1570 - 4 Barb Elephants and 2 Archers land near kIndalia! We have 4 Musketeers and a Crusader there, so maybe we will capture a Leader and get some gold. Empty Trireme picks up 2 Crusaders from Shade. Another Trireme disembarks Engineer and moves along North coast toward Heliopolis. 3rd Crusader moves out of Shade to be picked up.
1580 - kIndalia attacked by Barb Elephant, no damage. We discover Feudalism! I am able to start Navigation! City of Panama Canal is established as crossover point for Triremes. 2 loaded Triremes move into city.
1590 -3 Barb Elephants die at gates of kIndalia, again, no damage. Use Crusader to kill both Archers (on separate squares) Carthaginians kill our Trireme exploring their coast. Indians get Seafaring and overthrow government again. . Last Trireme is in place for attack and disembarks 2 Crusaders 2 squares from Heliopolis. We are getting good terrain improvements in outpost cities from new Engineers to improve food and productivity.
1600 - Heliopolis moves a Catapault to Pheasant square, how kind of them! I launch the attack! Triremes move adjacent to "Red X" square. 1st Crusader kills unknown unit in city, 2nd kills Archer, 3rd kills Trireme caught in port, and 4th takes city! We take Heliopolis, Navigation, and get 51 gold.
Leo's upgrades Trimerenes to Caravels. There is that 1 Catapault, and 2 nearby Egyptian Crusaders, though. I use Crusader North of City to kill Catapault, and 1 Crusader to kill nearest Egyptian Crusader, leaving the other Egyptian Crusader 2 turns away from city. Move Musketeer next to Heliopolis to enter next turn as defender.
1610 - India becomes a Republic. We are offered Bridge, Physics, Theology, University to research. I select Physics, since others can be stolen or taken, and to get to Railroad and Ironclad. Adjust "home" for some units to reduce shield consumption. Wounded Crusaders are fortified in city, and Musketeer enters.
1620 - Romans get Monotheism from Indians; Indians get Math from Romans. An Egyptian Caravel (!) from Thebes sinks a Caravel of ours I placed 4 squares from Thebes as guard. We discover Physics and start researching University (poll results). I tip a couple of huts for 200 gold. I attack and kill an American Crusader nearing Heliopolis.
1630 - India gets Astronomy from Rome; Rome gets Mysticism from Indians. Americans get Engineering from the GL! Babylonians start KRC. We build Magellan's (used 6 Caravans) and I buy to complete (cheap).
1640 - We Complete Magellan's! Additional Crusaders being sent to Heliopolis by Caravel.

*Comrade cavebear only leaves that day after an unprecedented round of 56 standing ovations*
Truly Communism, under the direction of Comrade cavebear, is the blessed government, and one that is fated to rule the world!
Some fantastic achievements there, cavebear, and everything is getting REALLY exciting, too! Wow - we are going through those techs pretty quick, so we're gonna have to poll for a whole chain of them for next time. I am starting to see the need for Ironclads - all those foreign Caravels are causing some problems. Fortunately the liberation force reached land before being attacked.
Let me be the first to congratulate you on your resounding successes whilst President - and unless a competitor arises to challenge you, we can expect many many more next term!
(Outgoing) VP,
MrWIA.

Wow, now that's a successful term. 3 techs gained: :b Since we're going through them faster, I'll set up more polls and try to shape things up further into the future from now on. Congratulations!

We should make a push north towards Washington. Even if it delayed the conquest of the Egyptians, their eventual defeat is inevitable, for the dialectic demands it. Anyway, capturing Shakespear's Theatre will give us an important platform from which to base our armies once (if) we convert to Democracy or Republic.

Well, now *that* is in context! I welcome that sort of comment.
Washington is walled, large, and it is reasonable to suspect that it is full of defenders (since the Americans have only 4 cities). How would you suggest we attack it? I do want your opinion on this.
Some questions: What do you think the Egyptians will do if we leave them alone for a while? Can we afford to attack strongly-defended cities while there are weaker ones to take? Do you think we should attack only cities with Wonders or whole civs (one by one)?

Well played term
I would suggest we should only take wondercity's and city's with high shieldproduction.
Let those high shield city's make more units and bombard the remaining (high trade) enemy city's with caravans from our ever expanding core.

We have a bunch of units ready to attack the egyptians, right? The americans are on the same continent as the egyptians, right? The egyptians have three cities. Washington is one city. If we bypass the egyptians, we can take washington. If we have a force sufficient to conquer three cities, we have a force sufficient to conquer one slightly larger city. And if we attack the egyptians and leave the americans alone, what do you think they will do? Also, If we capture washington, it gives us a large, on-site industrial base with which to produce units, greatly shortening our supply lines.

The Americans have 4 cities. The only 2 we can see are walled. How do you think we should attack them?

Perhaps I should chime in on the discussion of conquest...
Considering that every target on the egyptian-american continent is walled (that we can see, anyway), our current force is too weak to launch a further attack. We should assume we are attacking veteran units behind those walls.
Any pre-gunpowder defensive unit defends with a def=9 behind the walls. A veteran crusader attacks with att=7.5. We would need greater numbers or wonderful good luck to take even one of those cities.
I do not recommend attacking america yet, simply because we have weakened egypt. All of their attack units are already dead. Any being built can be killed by a just a few strategically placed units carrying our banner. Attacking the americans will cost us some of our units and allow egypt to regroup.
To further our conquest of this continent, the S.M.C. recommends one of the following approaches:
1. Build hordes of crusaders now, and research our way to cavalry. Leo's Workshop will make our swarm of crusaders (att=5) a swarm of cavalry (att=8). The AI will probably have gunpowder by then, but we will have both strength and numbers.
2. Build many barracks and then crusaders (and later dragoons). As veterans, they are almost as strong as cavalry. We could conceivably have a sizeable force ready before the AI reaches gunpowder.
In either case, our preferred mode of assault should be the second move after landing. Galleons would allow us larger attack forces with fewer ships.

I say we go for the weaker unwalled ones now. If we can take out the support for their entire goverment by removing all their sources fro income, trade, science. The larger more valuable ones will fall too us soon after. especially if we surpass the in millitary tech.

They have four cities? I thought they only had two. Anyway, my point stands, if we attack egypt, america will be able to build up even further.
