Oh, about those big battles I forgot to mention earlier. Check out some of the DS 9 episodes about the Dominion war. Kick ass battles.

yeah I do want to check those out since you mentioned them. My brother has been staying over my place and he watches DS9. I'll try to catch them.

I don't know if you can catch the ones you'll want to see. DS9 only shows repeats on late night anymore. How unfortunate.

Yeah, where I live they show them at about 10 or 11 pm weeknights. Kind of hard to catch, and kinda hard to figure out when the good episodes are on.

But ST:TNG degenerated into endless character examinations - that's not Sci-Fi! TNG when it was good, or dealt with wars/weird space phenomena/time travel, was VERY good. But it fizzled.

I never used to like DS9, but the eps we're seeing here actually have an ongoing story to them (something about the Prophets/another war brewing etc.) and aren't just standalone episodes. And they're sucking me in!

Yes, the DS9 episodes do tie in nicely to the last episode. That was probably the best part of the series (well, at least the last couple of seasons): Almost every episode contributed to the overall plot, rather than just a bunch of loosely tied events.

I catch it every now and then on Sci-Fi, but not very often. The acting was so terrible in some episodes that I simply couldn't watch anymore.

Star Trek, excluding Voyager and Enterprise. TOS, TNG and DS9 kicked ass though.

Star Wars? Loads of action, great special fx, rather simplistic storylines, rather predictable. Same goes for Star Trek mostly, but at least they have an occasional pearl in between the pebbles.

Star Wars is a kid's fairy tale dressed up in sci-fi veneer, nothing more.

certainly true.

it lacks depth. very simple good vs evil. in star trek, things are all a "shade of grey" (Ben Sisko).

And this is a good thing? If the only way they can come up with quality episodes like 'Yesterdays Enterprise' is churn out rubbish with subspace anomalies and dressed up contemporary issues like euthanasia, then that is surely a failing.

The whole series is absolutley bursting with cliches. They can never ever scan the planet, the main cause of death is exploding consoles and the holodeck malfunctions on a weekly basis.

And I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that the space battles at the end of DS9 were dreadful for a number of reasons.

1. Only the Defiant had shields, all the other ships blew up like firecrackers.

2. Since when did the Federation use fighters?

3. Every single Federation ship was different; no wonder they're losing if they have a different design for every ship. This is especially silly when the enemy ships have consistent designs.

4. The battles were fought at ridiculously close quarters, like Braveheart in space.

I have always been more of a Star Trek man myself, although I don't mind Star Wars. I am not a 'Trekkie' either, I just enjoy watching it, it is in fact one of the few things on TV I can be arsed to watch any more.

Light sabres? I mean, who would use a light sabre when you have a gun?

Exactly!

And besides, I've never understood how they manage to deflect those lasers. Another inaccuracy. You can see those laser shots moving. Alas, lasers travel at the speed of light, which is a little faster than they are portrayed!

The stupidest thing on star wars is that little bacteria in one's body cause that person to manipulate other people's mind, use telekinesis, and see things before they happen.

that's the worst kind of pseudo-science I've ever heard. I liked the force before I heard the "scientific" explanation in Phantom Menace. What a joke.

They use this little thing called the FORCE.

If they can control minds, fire lightning etc, then why not make ppl move at the speed of light in small movements like parries and swings?

SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEF.

And if you can't do that, invent some bull**** that will shut the pedant fans up. I know, I AM one of these pedant fans (except not really of ST or SW. )

They can if they're made of tachyons.

The Force are just little bacteria in your blood. It's not religion, it's no zen, it's just "science". The more bacteria you have, the more you are able to use the force.

Yeahhh.... the more tachyons in your bloodstream, the more you exist beyond the physics of the sub-light speed world.

Makes sense to this Physicist.
