Italy Mod
Hi everybody,
this is my first attempt to create a new civ for Civ3, so... do not get to mad at me if it sucks.
This mod adds Italy as playble civ without replacing any of the original 16 civs.
There are two zip files, you must download them both
How to install the mod is all decribed in the readme file you'll see in the first zip, remember to read the readme before playing (otherwise I would have called it ignoreme ).
For any bug, comments or whatever contact me in this forum or at my e-mail sognatore_gio@libero.it
Hope you will enjoy this mod.
Attention to everybody that already downloaded this:
The old version had a couple of very annoying bugs:
1 that maxed the culture of your cities, and one that made the game crush before loading it.
Those bugs have been fixed on this new version
Only the first zip changed, download only that one, you need only to change the old "Italymod.bic with the new "Italymod.bic" you'll find in this new zip, no other file have been changed.
still existing bugs:
The game will crash anytime you try to enter the Foreign advisor screen (F4), I have no idea on how to fix that.. if anyone of you knows it, please tell me
Saluti
Old Italy1on2 removed after 18 downloads
Here is the first zip:

I need confirm for a major bug I just founded!
In my second game with this mod, playing Italy as soon as I passed the year 0, all my cities increased their cultural border till the limit and I could discover every tech in 1 turn
After that every game at the start (4000 BC) I have this very same thing!!
Did any of you 11 guys who downloaded this experienced this bug... or does that mean that my computer is a drug addict ?

Bugs
I had exactly the same problem when trying to alter the sprites for the Americans. I checked all the ini/txt files and could sort the problem from there. Hope this works for you.

I did get the problem with crash before the game loaded, but did not get to download the new version, will do it tonight and see what happens.
Do I need to do anything with ini/txt files as mentioned by phildphild, or is that in the new version.
And also the problem with foreign advisor, is there away around that problem?
Thanks for your help and work on this mod.

All you have to do is: overwrite the old Italymod.bic FILE with the new one you'll find in the zip
Hope you'll enjoy this

I tried everything that came up to my mind, changing files, rewriting all by miself the PediaIcons.txt file, redoing the graphic for the adivisor.... but nothing
You will not be able to see which civ is at war or at peace with whatever other civ... It seems to me there is no solution... although I might look at the other CIV mods... to see If they had this problem and they solved it.
To go into the diplomacy screen with a civ just press shift+D (or maybe it was ctrl+D... don't remember)

I tried it last night and it works very well so far, I only go to play for three hours, though. I'll continue and let you know of any problems.
If you want I can clean up the grammar in the descriptions, let me know. You do very well, though..and English is a difficult language to master. I wish I knew a second language fluently like that.
On the foreign advisor, I got the same crash. When it asked if I wish to debug, I clicked yes, and Virtual C++ program kicked on. I get an additional message:
Unhandled exception in Civilization3.exe. 0xC0000005: Access violation.
I know some C++, but not much and dont know what this line means (this is where the debugger left me off)
00559B4F repne scas byte ptr[edi].
Actually it does not look like C++ code to me at all.
I hope that gives additional insight.
My guess would be that there's one more file that needs to know about the Italians for it to work. But I'm still new to the whole Civ stuff and don't know what it may be.
Good luck figuring it out....otherwise so long as there is access to diplomacy with other civs you can see at least their relationship to each other.

Unfortunately I do not understand C++, it is like speaking Arab to me.
What I know is that I'm not the only one with this problem... some other Civ Mod that change the leader graphic like mine does have crash.
Other Civ Mod that just use the graphic of another Civ do not crash, but there is a white spot instead of the leader face.
Instead the Civ Mod that change one civ with another seems to work just perfect.
For what concerns the grammar it would be great if you could give me some hints... I ofetn misspell words or other stuff

I understand a bit of c++ but couldn't identify such a vague error message...maybe trying to access a private class property ...
"00559B4F repne scas byte ptr[edi]." sounds more like assembly code, but don't take my word for it.

I'm still playing the game and its going great. I work around the Foreign Advisor by using the diplomacy screen. It just takes a little longer to see what everyone thinks of you.
As for the code..."00559B4F repne scas byte ptr[edi]"...it may be assembler, possibly the private class is written in that code, but the main program in C++. I don't know how you get around it, maybe asking Firaxis...I guess another option is to copy Julius Caesar or one of the other existing leaders and rename it.
or we can just live with it, which is fine by me.
I will see if I can update the grammar in the text files and repost the zip file.
One question, in Italian, is Rome Rome or Roma? I like using the Italian names of the cities, like Venezia and Genova and this also helps distinguish Rome v. Italian.

Rome is Roma!
I am currently working on correct spelling and other stuff, and in the new version, wich I still have to upload I already changed Rome into Roma for the Italian civ, while keeping it Rome for the Roman civ.
Once I'm done with it I'll upload everything!
I already tried copying the Caesar Foreign advisor file in the Italy Civ box, but it doesn't work... unless I change the graphic for every file, but this will mean no Italian leaderhead graphic.

Giovanni,
I made changes to the grammar, attached is the updated, including all the files. Only changes needed in bic file and civiloedia.txt. Feel free to use it or go ahead and delete.
I did not update the version number, I'm not sure how you want it to read, so it has the same version as the last one.
Good Luck

I ran into a new problem...sorry I don't get to play as much as would like so my games may take long, maybe you know about. As soon as the first Garibaldini is completed (1465 AD), the screen freezes with the Domestic Advisor in upper right corner asking what I want to build next in that city that completed the first Garibaldini. Nothing happens no matter what I do.
On a different note, I did get foreign advisors when I hit the F key, though VE's picture is blank.
Let me know if there's something I need to do to fix the Garibaldini problem.
Thanks.

Isn't having Rome the same as having Italy?
