City Planning - Main uses
Obviously we should have a pretty even mix of uses for our cities, but there are a lot of conflicting opinions about what we should specialise in...

So, to appease the masses, and as my first act as Apolyton's Fifth City Planner, I hereby open this poll

I think the big city's in our core should focus on maxing trade while our outside and newly conquered city's should focus on military expansion.

I think you should concentrate our efforts on a combination of high productivity for military production and large science infrastructure.

I voted for an even mix, but only because there isn't anoption for High Productivity;Science. I believe an even mix of high science and productivity combine with low taxes is best. The reason for lowering taxes is simple, the lower the taxes the more science we have, the more science we have the better units we have, better to SQUISH our enemies with. Of course the high productivity is essential to all parts of the cities, after all you don't want to build a marketplace/library if it's going to take 100 turns.

that's my idea.

i'm with atawa. core cities= trade improvements, outlying cities=military exapnsion. hopefully we can time the finishing of the marketplaces so that they can switch to building ironclads as soon as we get steam engine

Raising tax is even better for sience the sience itself, that is if we buy catarans in our core and trade them with off-shore foreign islands.

Go for the basics first - all cities should have temples, marketplaces and libraries. A select few such as Walvis Baai, Ten Zuiden and Balsindia should have Universities and Rivertown and Umbra Banks. Aqueducts, Harbours and Collossea are specialist improvements and should be built only as and where needed.

I too was thinking that. Due to the feelings of the masses, I will make it my goal to give every city a reasonably productivity/tax/science/happiness level. I shall also choose which cities (taken from your suggestions ) need to excel in other fields more than others.

Hey, it ain't too hard, Bear. just look at the Trade screen - those with gold of 8 and over will benefit by at least 1 gold from Banks, and the cities I mentioned for Universities have TONNES of beakers. There're one or two others as well - Apolyton,Ormond and maybe even Umbra.

Minister of WAR, not peace.

The Party... like in Commie countries, they only have one party, the Communist Party. I'm not talking about the political party here though, it's just commietalk.

Anyway, I think we should make it more or less even but leaning towards productivity, since that was a close runner-up.
