Chretien begins forming his fascist dictatorship
Okay, a hyperbole, but you never know these days.
Well, the other day he threatened to fire people in his party who were going to run against him in the leadership race.
And today, he did. Chretien fired Paul Martin today, the Finance Minister, soley because Paul Martin was going to run against Chretien in the leadership race for the party.
Martin was one of the most sane liberals, it's a shame he's no longer finance minister.
Are you wingnuts happy you voted liberal now (coughOntariocough). Boo!

If I ever came face to face with Chretien, I'd be so tempted to b*tchslap him.
When is he going to die already?!

Martin was a right-wing Liberal. Don't try to dress your bias up as objective reporting...
I'm happy with the turn things are taking. Next JC should appoint Allan Rock Deputy PM in Manley's place. Then we could see Rock for PM in 2005.

More coverage: Liberals fear "destruction" of party
The Liberals are also caught up in a wonderful Advertising scandal right now too.

By right-wing I meant sane.
Look at the quotes in the articles yourself, it's obvious he's more right wing than most liberals.
Quote:
|
The loss of Martin, who turned massive deficits of up to $40 billion into a series of healthy surpluses, comes as the Canadian economy is rebounding, the dollar is rising and the leading industrial nations meet this summer in Alberta with Canada as host.
Some analysts say the loss of Martin could rattle markets on Monday, driving down the value of the loonie.
|
As I said, the most sane of the famous liberals. I was hoping he'd replace Chretien.

The article is after the cabinet announcement, however Martin quit earlier in the day. Interesting that it is being reported that he was fired.

There seems to be some speculation on the media's part that he was fired, even with Chrétien's assertion that he wasn't, and with Martin's comments on Friday (Saturday?)

Domestic dissent in a major oil supplier to the US? Should we "invade" to assure the continued delivery of our product?

Your entire military is off on "peacekeeping" missions. What would you do about it?

Then you should know that it was the first thing they mentioned on the midnight news on national Danish radio.

From the article:
Quote:
|
A source close to Martin said his boss was fired by the prime minister after testy discussions throughout the afternoon with the prime minister's office.
"The PM fired him," said the source. Chretien "didn't wait for him to make a decision whether he would resign or not."

Well, much of this was precipitated by Chrétien shipping off former Industry Minister Gagliano (sp) to the Ambassador's post in Denmark amidst charges of corruption during his tenure...

And the BBC has a story linked on its front page:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/wor...00/2022515.stm: "Canadian PM sacks rival"
And a related article on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/wor...00/2018736.stm
Excerpt:
Quote:
|
Canadian PM defends 'stolen' money
Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien has admitted that "a few million [Canadian] dollars" may have been stolen during efforts to raise the profile of the federal government in the province of Quebec.
Speaking to Liberal Party supporters at a fundraising dinner, the prime minister said the money was lost in a good cause - to preserve Canada as a united country.
Mr Chretien's government has become embroiled in a growing corruption scandal over contracts handed out to Liberal supporters.
The allegations are the subject of a police investigation and have already cost two ministers their jobs.
|
What an absolute EMBARASSMENT to the country. Has Chretien ever spoken without making an ass out of himself?
I love the quote of his, which he said nonchalantly: "Perhaps there was a few million [Canadian] dollars that might have been stolen in the process"
Gotta love his blatant attempts to buy votes like this. Even caught red handed and he doesn't think it's a big deal.

This is great. Maybe we'll even see a Liberal minority government next time...most likely in coalition with the NDP.

NDP has been losing votes, Canadian Alliance gaining votes.
CA doesn't have a religious wingnut as a leader now either.
If they keep this up the next government is CA, not Liberal.
