Isn't the howitzer represented by radar artillery in Civ3? And the engineer was a missing unit in Civ3.
I would like to see an elephant usable by all of the civs. I, also, wouldn't mind seeing a dragoon unit that would replace cavalry, and then have cavalry come in the Industrial age (or should it be vice versa for realism?). The engineer and partisan unit would be nice too have as well.

Alpine troops, or some other offensive unit that treats all terrain as roads.

Where's the "other" option? I don't want to see any of those return, but I would like to see new units...So I choose the bottom option, since that was the option which was closest on what I wanted...

I'd like to see partisans make a comeback. However, with alterations...
- When a partisan is in jungle, forest, hill or mountain squares, they should be able to hide from sight.
- Attack bonus when attacking from said 'cover' squares. Greater defensive bonus when being attacked on these squares.
- The number of partisan units that appear outside a newly conquered city should be proportional to the number of citizens that turn into resistors.

I'm glad that the alpine troops are not in Civ 3 and certainly don't want them to make a comeback. What a ridiculous unit!

Now wait a minute. Alpine troops were great for blazing through difficult terrain quickly to attack enemy troops. I miss this unit and used it a lot in civ2.
The unit however that I'd like to see make a comeback is the partisan. The fact that he treated all tiles as roads and could ignore ZOC (I know this is not present in Civ3) was deadly. The partisan, like the explorer in Civ3, was used to run into enemy territory and pillage galore! The advantage the partisan has over the explorer is that he can also attack and defend.

partisan. my friend suggested that the current system of "resistance" could be supplimented by adding the classic partisans outside of the city, and lowering the # of resisting citizens in the city itself.

PARTISANS!!! Not because of any gameplay reasons. Just because they were the coolest kick ass unit ever to be in a civ game.

I'll bet that they are going to add a "Partisan" or "Resistance" unit to the PTW WW2 unit set. If you remeber, there was a unit which was shown on a pre-release pict. It looked like factory worker with a gun. He had a red sweatshirt and a workers cap. Everyone thought at first that he was the new partisan unit. He obviously did not make the cut. I think that he is going to be used as a partisan unit in PTW. i'll also bet that many of the armored/motorized units of this screen shot are going to be used in PTW.

A lot of inaccurate guesses on that page. As it has already been said, the one they are guessing to be a partisan is a rifleman. How old is that page anyway?

Yes, that unit was way to ridiculous to be in a Civ game...It might be a strong unit, but it looks just way to bad, except when moving on mountain squares...

I want to see partisans as well, or something that will pop out of captured cities.
Crusaders were unnecessary; what is a crusader but an (early) knight? Personally I think crusaders should be a 5.2.2 french UU. (Screw D'Artangan, I'm talking 'bout Orlando Furioso!) Then the musketeer should be renamed the Minuteman and be the American UU. And the English UU should be a 4.3.1 variant on the longbowman.

Definately Partisans. Dragoons and Cavalry are very similar. The only difference is that Dragoons fight on horseback, while Cavalry dismount before fighting. Cavalry should really just be Musketmen/Riflemen on horseback (more speed). The actual unit that is included should probably be Lancers, which had a great demoralizing value upon the enemy (subsequently crushing them quite nicely). Crusaders and Knights are... so very similar I don't see the point. Howitzer has been replaced, Elephant unit isn't all that important, same with Alpine Troops. Partisans, aka Guerilla Troops would be a very significant inclusion. Give them a 'submarine-like' ability or something, and some other special abilities.

Diplomats, Agents and Spies
Gentlemen,
Since the Default rules have all the espionage costing a fortune, I would love to see the return of the SPY/NINJA units from CTP2.
I think that they would make a welcome (if annoying) addition to the game, and would allow all sorts of dirty tricks from stealing tech to sabotaging a wonder in production. I miss being able to put a Computer Civilization (CC) back to shield 1 on a wonder I was almost finished.
Start with diplomats for the ancients, spies for the Medieval, and James Bond for the modern ages, and a hacker/techno-ninja for the post-modern ages. The animated gif's should import quite nicely and the functionality is already there with the Espionage options. For the games where every CC is a democracry and not really doing anything, it would be another great way to cure the boredom and pester the CC's. Not to mention that the CC's could completely penetrate your government from top to bottom. It would make the Intelligence Agency a userful small wonder again, and make taking a city much more interesting: revolt, sabotage production, sabotage public works, and maybe even bribe a unit ?
After all, warfare is based on deception, right ?
