I wouldn't say cheat protection is what spoiled CTP.

It's one of the things that can and sometimes does spoil CtP MP, believe me as the CtP MP community nerd.

I was just making a CTP sucks joke. My relationship with Peter "Enjolras" Karpas and Lt. John ruined that game for me more than anything else.

Some? The World Cup has 16 people, those are the VERY best, and there are over 50 active players .

I was using some as a relative term. CTP sold far more than 50 copies. Many of these copies were returned though

It did, but most of them thought they were buying a Sid Meier game.

Odd... when I bought CtP, I realized what am I buying. Actually, I have played a game of CtP before buying it, and liked it.

Maybe most Americans are just more impulsive buyers than those in the Baltic region. Nearly everyone I know outside of the internet thinks that Sid Meier was involved in CTP before I set them straight. It is the same way with Civ3.

It has nothing to do with Baltic region, and I bought CtP in Berlin . It's just that it contained the word Civilization in the title, which tricked many into thinking Sid is taking part. Good trick by Craptivision.

Yep. They even tried to pass it off as the official sequel. If they called it a spin-off, I might have been ok with that, but to call it a sequel was horrible.

Yes, and this is one of the reasons there was the wrangling in court between Activision and MicroProse.

Correct.
Man, I really threadjacked this.
Back to the topic. If something like cheating can make something like CTP seem even worse, than it can have an even greater affect on the truly good games

hi ,
to cheat or not to cheat , .....
well , its simple , you want to , fine let other people know you do it , and let other people use the same tool's , ....
there are some MP games where people actually do this , ...
still , it would be better to have no cheat's in civ3 , ....
have a nice day

I really appreciate that Firaxis included no built-in cheat codes.

Back when I first got Civ2 I used the cheat mode. I was a different person back then. After the first game, I felt incredibly bored. Then I started up the tutorial and played it without cheating. I had a great time and didn't sleep that night.

It took me a long time to get bored again with Civ2. That was when I got really good at it and didn't have anything to do during long waits between turns.

Uhmm, took me several days to realize what an utter disappointment Civ 2 is.

I didn't have high expectations of it when I bought it and there weren't many games near its level at the time. I couldn't find disappointment there.

After playing Civ 1, I expected a real sequel, with new stuff and such. I saw new graphics, which were very confusing at times, and little new concepts, except for improved diplomacy .

I had barely played Civ at all before Civ2. I was more into other Sidgames like Silent Service.

Civ 2 was, at best, an x-pack of Civ 1, not a sequel. Graphics got much worse! I never confused anything in Civ 1, and multiple times did in Civ 2.
Little new concepts. Stupid Caravans remained. Settlers making improvements also remained, another thing I hated. Ahh .
