How far will USA get in the soccer World Cup?
Ok, now that USA have finally won a soccer cup game after 52 years, are they on a roll? How much further will they go?
Here are a few thoughts. Good old typical USA. Not only did they score three goals for themselves they also scored one for the opposition. Always as charitable to those in need as ever I see; one might say generous to a fault!
Why have USA not dominated the world with this game as they do in most other sports? The answer came to me just recently. They don't have the hunger for the game as other countries do. Being the top in so many other fields of sport, I guess it's something that hasn't bother them too much. With the huge pool of human resource in America, I'm sure they could dominate here as well if they really wanted to.

I don't know why soccer isn't very popular here. I just don't know...
Maybe there's too much running?

They can't go any further in the soccer World Cup because such a thing doesn't exist.
There is only a football World Cup.

They'll beat Poland, lose to South Korea and go out on goal difference.

We have modest expectations for this team. But it's fun watching them play well and win. Good while it lasts!

If we make it to the second round, we'll be pleased as punch. The best we have done in an awful long time.

Um... We beat Colombia in 1994 .
We'll make the 2nd Round, maybe even as the #1 team in the group .

Before America played Portugal, I had them down as one of the worst teams in the competition. After the game however I was pleasantly suprised to see how far America had progressed since France 98, where they were poor to say the least. Now I think there is a good chance for America to qualify to the next stage and if they get a good draw, who knows how far the can go? Considering they won today without there star player, Claudio Reyna.

Not so sure. The Portugal team made some bad bad mistakes. They'll probably lose to South Korea, but Portgual is going to have difficulties against South Korea as well.

The US surely deserved the win. It's sad to see players that individually are twice as talanted as their opponents behave like that. The defence was a hen-house and the rest ran around as divas without taking any responibility on midfield. The US on the other hand put good pressure on the man with the ball, maybe to good at times as they could be dribbled and leaving space open behind but since Portugal wasn't smart enough as a team to use that.. Just shows that you can't go out and play when the opponents are working hard as a team.
Sure, the goals where kind of flukes but they earned them through a number of qualified attacks anyhow.
I'm just scared the US will actually win the WC now. That would be a waste since no one would care.

Football is not popular because the game doesn't have any commercials. Hence less money. And many sports stars want those big NFL contracts.

The us could dominate in soccer if we wanted to and I predict we will win one of the next 4 World Cups. We just started getting into the sport in the last 10 years.
When I was a kid I knew 1 person who played and he was English. My high school didn't have a team. Now all the kids are playing and we will find those with true talent and come up with the next generation of superstars.

Yea there has been a concerted effort made to introduce soccer (football, ugh) in the United States. There has been some evil conspiracy that has plotted this out for years. When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s soccer was everywhere for kids. Youth soccer leagues seemed more popular and accessable than other sports. Just look at the term "soccer mom" someone has made soccer a youth phenominon, and they have done this intentionally with the hopes all these youngsters raised on soccer will start caring about the sport when they get older. And it is working. I hear that ABC (one of the major networks) is actually carrying some World Cup games this year.
It is a slow, methodical, and very smart plot to transform the US into a soccer watching nation. The UN must be behind it, those bastards. Trying to crush US individuality and strengthen global culture. Just you wait, in a few years the UN may try to rig the World Cup just so the US can win, just so we will get into the sport. Its all an evil plot! Resist!

Into the second round, no further. They will probably meet Italy in the eight part final, then itīs goodbye USA. But it depends on the other hand, both Mexico and Croatia has the chance to win their group. Then itīs more uncertain...

Youth League soccer was a big deal in the 70's. People keep prediciting it will take off, but it doesn't. Sorta like fusion.

What Peacemaker is a good example of is a missunderstanding of the depth of football in other countries. The US is getting better and will probably have a stable team in the future. But winning the world cup is nothing that you can expect in a couple of decades "if you want to". Few countries can and a world cup victory is based on a people that lives, breathes and sleeps football.
