As for Expansionist civs, I would give them a second special unit, the Coracle. This is like a Galley with no attack power (0.1.3, carry 2), and would upgrade to Caraval. The Coracle would be available from the start of the game, cost 30 shields, and travel over Coastal and Sea squares (sink in Ocean even WITH the Great Lighthouse).

Alternatively, the Expansionist civs could get half price Aqueducts and Hospitals, which would give them a benefit throughout the game instead of just during the Ancient Age.
hi ,

hmmm , you just have to see that the overall game stay's in balance .

I thank everyone for their support, hopefully this will be addressed in a patch without any need for an XP.

Expansionist idea:

One of the Firaxis people mentioned 'ruins' among the new terrain iterm.

Perhaps ruins could act as a modern goody hut, extending the usefulness of expensionist?

Those were basically the ideas I was thining about as well. My opinion on the improved seafaring would be that ships from an expansionist civ have a lower chance of sinking. Galleys should be allowed to move safely across sea tiles as well.

Giving aqueducts and hospitals for half price would be an unfair advantage IMO. those buildings take much longer to finish than barracks, walls and harbors, so the advantage of half production would be way bigger. An idea might be to have the pop limits of cities expanded (like 7 pop for an aqeduct and 13 for an hospital).

They could have a reduced cost; not necessarily half; but doesn't the same argument against also apply to Universities and Cathedrals for reduced costs. Scientific and Religious get reduced costs for the more expensive buildings, as well as for Temple and Library.

Some great discussion and ideas going on.

I agree, Commercial should be given 1/2 of marketplaces and Banks. However,Expansionist is fine IMLO. Even if you do start on an island, you are already 1/2 way to getting Map Making and thus expanding to other islands.
