It was somewhere on these forums, is all I can say! A month or so ago. Can't remember topic, posters, or anything else about it.
Space05us: sorry, but IIRC the Mighty Ming was heavily implicated!
I'm pretty certain this happened. I pretty sure I didn't dream it!!!!!

well, this is the new age, the internet generation so to speak. and we don't accept just any assertion or statement without that little thing called evidence. which would mean a link

Yes MarkG wants to destroy a rather active forum on his apolyton site. That makes perfect sense to me

Historian Report
Here are the facts as history will record them!
MarkG has shown consistent evidence of total support for this forum. He started it, for one. For another, he PM'd me, unbidden, to ask for history updates each of the last 2 months. These lovely little PR pieces have been far more successful than anything else (e.g., signature links) in attracting new participants to the Civ2 Democracy Game.
Ming is another story. As many of you know, we are long-time buddies IRL and I see him at least once a week. It's true that Ming has displayed a disparaging attitude to this forum, at one point (verbally) telling me he thought it was a "dead forum." But so what?: He feels that way about a lot of fora, and he's certainly entitled to his opinion (however myopic and uninformed it may be). In essence, he's just indicating he has no interest in what we're doing. Which is fine.
As moderator, Ming mostly cares about how much of his time a forum takes up. Since he's only had to step in here once, that puts this forum solidly in the "Mostly Harmless" category.
--Which means he doesn't have to go "on patrol" for OT threadjacks, flame wars, etc.
--Which means we get some slack when our threads wander a bit and become mildly spammish on occasion.
--Which means Post Count Heaven.
Which makes this a great place to be.

This is a bold face lie... I have never said it was a dead forum... and never thought it either.

And please tell me which other fora that I mentioned besides the ones that actually are dead and haven't had any posts in months...

Wrong... while I have stated that I have no interest in joining the game... it doesn't mean I have no interest in what is being posted here.

I have stepped in more than once in this forum... just recently in response to the many complaints about skywalker...
In addition... ask around on how many times I'm requested to take action in regards to topping and untopping threads... I think "once" I overlooked a request, and when I was made aware of it, I acted.

All forums have threads that wander a bit and become spammish on occasions... but that doesn't mean Post Count Heaven... just ask skywalker...

For a Historian, you sure don't do a very good job.
Next time, maybe the historian should check his facts.

HISTORIAN FLOGS HIMSELF
Well, I really stepped in it this time.
What started as a positive "support of MarkG" post degenerated badly and has caused ill will. Worse, I have caused hassles for a personal friend. That was never my intent.
I doubt any good will be served by a detailed examination of my post and Ming's response. Let it suffice to say that I was out of bounds.
I HEREWITH PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE TO MING FOR THE INACCURATE STATEMENTS CONTAINED IN MY PREVIOUS POST.
Mea culpa. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.

JR... I appreciate your post.
And I do want to comment on one of the comments I made in the above post.

I just want to point out that JR and I get together on Friday nights on a weekly basis as part of the "Strategic Gaming Society"... where we sit around and play board games while relaxing and drinking... And we do sometimes drink a lot, and have "wonderful" conversations into the wee hours of the morning.
My comment was meant to imply that maybe his memory of some of those conversations might be questionable... because they are for me some Saturday mornings I by no means meant to imply that he drinks too much on a regular basis...
Sorry about that JR.
So case closed in my books... I'll see you at the next scheduled meeting of the SGS...

I trust that the current voting, which essentially says 21 "no" to a paltry 3 "yes", answers any concerns that the majority of us think the creation of a Civ3 Democracy Game is a negative thing or that it was in the least way meant to threaten our game.

This is the story I was thinking of, -Jrabbit posted details of that conversation the next day, so at least I didn't dream it. But what I seem to have failed to realise was that -Jrabbit and Ming were such buddies, and that -Jrabbit's post at the time was more in the line of a friendly dig than serious criticism. I apologize unreservedly for any misunderstanding I've caused. No hard feelings I hope.
(I note that Ming denies the quote anyway. Well, that's between him and -Jrabbit, I was just remembering what I had read).
Particular apolosies to MarkG who is clearly entirely innocent of any wrongdoing!! Yes, I did notice that "major update" of May 21. Great stuff.

If I had seen it then, I would have denied it too... It's just not true. JR may have interpreted something differently, but I by NO MEANS EVER SAID SUCH A THING!

Actually, if I remember correctly, my comment was a long the lines of "a good single player should be able to beat a team effort" because decision by commitee is not the best way to make decisions
I'm going to have to remember to tape our drunken conversations on Friday nights in the future
