Who is the best Civ2 MP Player?
Ok, there is lots of people talking smack, so I'm gonna post a poll. I'm probably dumb for doing this and I'll probably leave out about half of the best players, but I'll put it up anyways. Humor me.

What settings are we talking about here anyway?
Most of the players listed are very good on their own setting but cant play anything else.
Guys like Woke may be good on 1x1x deity but get their ass kicked by avarage zoneplayers on 2x2x king.

Polls like this are all about perceptions and popularity anyway, so why muddy the waters with Settings. And as always it will prove nothing, but hopefully provide just another opportunity for chest thumping and playful bantering. Like we need anymore of them.
RAH
At least I know I'll get one vote.
Based on the legend in his own mind principle.
And Ozzy, if you had really wanted some votes, you should have put banana next to your name.

Why not set up one of them tourneys like there was a few years ago and find out?
Votes mean nothing. A tourney or something comparable is the only way to test something like that.
It's like doing a poll to see who the best baseball team is. Its useless like rah said, because it turns into a popularity contest.
Competition is the only answer to your question oz. Everything else is a waste of time.
Besides, I bet half the guys you listed arent even active players. So considering them the best is silly, unless you ask who was the best ever..........

Oh, come on drake, I know you've been following the other challange thread. They can't even agree on ONE SINGLE challange match. What hopes does a tourney have. CB was successful the first year he set one up, but the last one died an early death. And I don't think a tournament would necessarily prove who the best players was, Just who was very good and caught a few breaks.

Besides, what settings would you use in that tourney?
Half the people play 2x2x king, the other half 1x1x deity....

I understand that it would probably never happen. Most of these so called "good" players like to hear themselves talk more than they like to play. Just saying that a vote like this is pretty useless.
Though I know this is a hard concept to follow, if a tourney with the two "camps" was ever to ensue, it could be played at a compromise. (Compromise? Heaven forbid someone compromise! )
Either 1x2x or 2x1x and the middle ground between king and deity, emperor. Maps? Medium of course.
A good tourney would put players in a situation where they werent entirely comfortable anyway. Adjusting to new settings and situations is a skill most people don't put to a test. They just go with whats comfortable, time after time. A compromised game woul be challenging to both camps and would be a much better test than playing in either camps "home" court.
Anyway, like rah said, never gonna happen anyway, so who cares.

Of course, you're assuming that all of us actually care who is considered the best player. Some of us just play for fun and avoid the chest thumping. I find certain setting more FUN than others, so I play them a majority of the time. I only play other settings to sometimes pay back the people that aren't thrilled with the settings I like but play them anyway.
I can pretty much rank the players I play with, but it's not #1 #2 or #3, it's either Good, Average or Bad. Despite all the thumping you read hear, no one is undefeated (except in their own twisted minds). Luck plays too big a part in the game and even the best players get unlucky sometimes.

I suggested a tourny in a bracket format like the NCAA basketball tourny with a best of 3 in each pairing (1 game deity 1x1x , 1 game emp 2x1x - 1 game king 2x2x.) Some people thought it was a good idea but then someone suggested I set it up and it went nowhere from there. LOL
One other thing to remeber when considering best player besides settings is # of players. There is a big difference between duels and 4 player games.

That is such a lie. I am sooo undefeated (apart from when I get unlucky of course)
Seriously though, I'd be up for any tournament, any settings. Sounds like fun if some good players want to play; there are a lot of people here who I'd love to kick ass on. Problem is getting something like that organised.

yes, this list is much better, for i'm by far the "best"; my winless streak is superior and unmatchable
[note to self: continue duel with Ming and lose, otherwise streak will be in jeopardy]

I was going to vote Markus but I think the arguments that Alexanders Horse has been putting forward in conjunction with mine and others experiences suggests that Markus really only follows thru on games he can be sure of winning...
You won't believe what he said after todays session of the Thurs night diplo... tbc...
Nappy is in the same boat as Markus after he conceeded the previous diplo to me and allies. He said he wouldn't give me the pleasure of having my troops stomp thru his land and he hadn't lost a city!
If Makeo or I had his civ we would have made a go of it.
Makeo is my vote and he's not on the list! So I won't vote...

I voted War4, for the very first thing noted by Atawa.
Flexibility of settings.
