Olden Days Memories
Please post here your oldest apolyton memory (or fairly significant event) and around the time it occurred... please explain its detalis or your response to it.
Oh yes, this is being done so that Apolyton: The Book can be completed... or at least move along in its completion... (Requested by Solver,DanQ,Asher, and others )
The Link to Apolyton:the Book is in my signature
----
Well, I may as well start things off with my first significant event memory.
Area 24.
Many people know all about this so I wont bore you with many of the details.
The way the month or week started was with Andz82's (my memory must really be going,,, was he 82 or 83 or 84?) leaving Apolyton. I wished him good luck while others cursed him and AH or someone else mentioned that he'd likely be back... I hardly knew any OTers at that time.
Then the Area 24 incident broke surface.
It seems that amny apolytoners had followed The Call of Snapcase into a forum that MarkG forgot to lock- he entered it by typing forumid numbers into the browser toolbar... This was where PH and many others acquired hundreds of posts through spam and other unseemly activities.
When I saw the list of the banned, I was quite interested, and followed the details of the issue although I was not yet fully integrated into apoylton culture, and felt somewhat taht I udnerstood... but was still vaguely puzzled by the whole issue (oh well, newbie syndrome )
Now 'tis your turn

This very well may be my first post on Apolyton- posted on September 25th 1999 in Civ2 general forum:
"I am the Great and Powerful Sauron! Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"
Its all been downhill from there.

I remember my first posting was in the Civ section.
We were talking about government forms, and it ended up in a history type discusion.
Then me being totaly flamed by one fellow for being wrong about Germany's relationship with Russia prior to the war that broke out.
So I told the guy to back off, and others kindly came to my defence.
Interesting newbie experinece.

Area25.
I remember the failed Exodus to the Mod Asylum...i forget when...had to be over a year ago at least...the mods did something....probably took away post counts in the OT or something...I forget what, and me and a few others fled to the mod asylum in hopes that everyone would join us...they didn't.

I asked "What's Apolyton?" on owo.
The answer was "It's full of bible-bashers and nazis".

I remember, coming to the CTP Off Topic (back in the day) with YYYH. Yelling at Red Trotskyite about communism and everyone else about CTP (on the on topic). Was threatened with banning by Markos. But then kinda gelled in the CTP Off Topic. When the Off Topics joined, I was thrust into something interesting, because the Civ Off Topic was much bigger than the CTP one.

Yeah there where many in the Civ 2 OT but they needed guidance by an elite. That's when we at the CTP OT came into the picture.

I remember emailing Ming and asking my password.
I'm sure he regrets the day he sent it to me.
But the most significant event is Area 25(?). I was banned and this is what caused me to stay on Poly.
And my first DL... Actually Ecthelion made it for me, because I didnt know how.

I remember only posting in the on-topic for ages, until I discovered the on-topic.
When I first started posting in the OT Civvers was posting on the evils of homosexuality, when I revealed I was a gay christian.
Thought I was fairly unknown for ages until Gibsie (I think it was) remarked "there are no unknown gay posters red_jon"

My first memory was when I made my initial thread called "Do liberals have any common courtesy?" I found out that they didn't... Since then I found out that a lot of conservatives don't have much courtesy either. I thought this forum was infested by liberal atheists but I found out it was actually infested with liberal atheists, so I stuck around to beat my head against a wall.

You're the first OT poster I remember Lincoln (aparet from civvers). I know you debated against him and I joined in on the moderate Christian side.

Michael Jeszenka. Now posts as Magyar Crusader unless I'm mistaken.
Avoids the OT now, which is probably just as well. He used to post some really vile homophobic filth here in the pre-moderation days.

Well it is nice to be remembered. It is interesting how views change over the years. I certainly have become better educated since I came here. I have also seen several people switch sides completely.

Yes, red_jon. We like to think of them as Golden Days or more commonly those years when we had REALLY stupid ****ers such as Mikey J., maestorbator, Joe, KrazyCommie and other peculiar yet charming personalities. Wiggy and Spinko (though he existed back then, too) couldn't hold a candle.
Anyway, I remember a lot. Newsmax invasion, that's my favorite, since I started it. I discovered the forums at newsmax.com, posted a link from there to here, and it led to much unpleasantness and eventually to Lincoln coming here to stay and few Apolytoners going there. And how 'bout Bill3000 and Demesos, not to forget Fascesos? Everybody suu-uuu-ure hated that Demesos.

Well I'm not devoutly religious anymore. I don't go to church, though I pray every day (it's a personal thing).
A couple of people who I thought were my friends didn't like the fact that I was gay when I came out, saying I'm going to hell.
Thankfully I'd made new friends by then.
