Maybe its because we are the country involved and Big Brother has his eye on us? And I really don't understand why most of the USians on ACS haven't heard about this...

Maybe that's because news about small countries isn't supposed to be of interest for US viewers?

Hueij ,
True,
Most of the international coverage these days is either
1. Afghanistan
2. Indian border conflict
3. Isr/Pal

I can understand why that is, but it worries me. The US is THE world power nowadays so shouldn't her people at least be informed about how the rest of the world fares?

This is an interesting read. Has anyone read the notes on the those that have signed on?
http://untreaty.un.org/ENGLISH/bible...I/treaty10.asp
Has Russia or Australia signed on as of yet?

I'm serious. There are many people who care about the rest of the world, but many just want to look inward. Being the self-centered people they are, they just focus on their own problems and forget about everything outside themselves. Many don't even care about national politics.
People in the US work more hours than most, people don't want to get home from work and look into issues that don't directly affect them.

The sad thing is that you'll find a higher percentage of better informed people at Apolyton then in the general population. By a lot.
RAH
I did see a quick summary of this in the paper this week, but it was buried on page 20. Not many people get that far.

I know, but even here I see some Americans spout the greatest nonsense about Europe or the rest of the world. Sometimes I'm really having trouble not to troll against America...

Hueij: You're the ones who think they're going to get invaded. That is about the silliest serious misconception I've heard in a long time.

We know we are not going to be invaded. It's the realisation that our biggest ally doesn't think twice about how about other nations and people think and automatically assumes that their point of view is the one and only. It's not only the Invasion Act, it's also Kyoto, it's also Start2, it's the way the US thinks it is ruling the world.

I think you'd be surprised about how much of what you read here is blantant trolling from americans, that you guys take serioiusly. And visa-versa I'm sure.

Come on, some of these guys can't be as stupid as they appear to be.

I don't agree with you here... The US is a wondeful country, a whole continent that changes with every corner you turn. Most people you meet are friendly (tho kind of shallow). Some of my fav movies come from there and they wrote some awfull literature.
If I ever have to flee the Netherlands (God forbid) I know where I would go to (well, if Jamaica won't take me )...

No.

You know, Hueij, most of what you're complaining about is the US not listening when the rest of the world tries to tell it what to do. Not the other way around as you seem to suggest.

This is what we call a slip of the tongue (or a slip of the finger in this case)!
But anyway you're right. I've got nothing against Americans as such, but not a single week goes by when I'm not angered by a new action from the Bush administration these days.
