Firaxis: please let us modify 2050, and why
I would really love it if the guys at Firaxis exposed the 2050 end date in the editor. Since the date only affects one thing, the end date, it's a very easy change to the code.
It's not that I don't finish games before that, I normally do, but you know, sometimes you feel an urge to remove the restriction.
And some people would like to play very slowly, maybe.
Besides... Firaxis is considering letting the Editor add a new Era. Even if PtW doesn't ship with any kind of a future Era (only you Firaxians now), there will certainly be future mods, and, given a whole new era, the 2050 limit might become quite annoying.
Hope you read this and consider it, if not done already.
Thanks!

No need to guess, it's easy. 2050 is hardcoded, but shouldn't be more than in a few places in the code, so not hard to change it.

I imagine it'll only take a little effort from Firaxis - can't be that hard to change a few lines of code (if that)...

Yes, I would like to have this date changeable. Preferably in the game setup screens, so that you can set it individually for every game you start.
I would not necessarily use it for making the game longer, but to make it shorter, so that the aim is to reach a specific goal in a certain time.

Yeah, I don't see why it'd be hard to just type in an end date in the editor, or a start date for that matter.
Want a 30 years war scenario? You should be able to just key in 1618 as a start and 1648 as the end (though you really might want to put a few years extra on either end, but you get the picture . . . ).
Not only that, but then choose turns by 1: mutli-year, 2: year, 3: season, 4: month, 5: week and perhaps even 6: day. Would be nice if it then showed you how many turns your three choices (start, end, & interval) would generate; 30 years war by season; 120 turns, by month; 360 turns etc.

hi ,
this way one could even put the number of turns an age should last , example , ancient era 100 , next 25 , next 215 , and so on , ....maybe even an "number of turns" for research should be included in every era , ...
have a nice day

Come on Firaxis, it's easy to change.
Maybe not everyone will use it, but everyone will be happy to have this option in the editor.

Incidentally, you can use Gramphos' Save Game Editor to change the end date on a game by game basis.

IIRC, they did both start date and end date for a patch in SMAC (putting the end date in alpha.txt). I don't see any reason why they can't do it here for the scenario editor...
Right?

I'd like to see firaxis allow us to edit the end date for the game in the editor... but I dought it. Manly because it would perhaps require some rehashing on the points built into the code for the "histograph" win.
But I do wish.

When you turn off the histograph victory possibility it doesn't disappear?

Right, if it's like
if (gameyear==2050) {
stuffhere;
morestuff;
}
it can't be hard to change to
if (gameyear==endyear) {
...
I hope they already read this.

Xarxo is obviously mistaken here. It's impossible to turn off Histograph victory.

Well, if no-one was at the CFC chat on Friday, it seems that the year increments will be unavaiable for editing. Since Firaxis don't seem very keen on time editing, it looks like the 2050 end date will remain the same. Which is a shame.

I agree that setting the starting & ending dates is an absolute must for people making senerios but so is the ability to control the time step. For instance if I was making a senerio about the American Civil War I would want it to start in 1861 but I'd also need each turn to represent 1-3 months instead of the typical 5 years.

Options to quit, or keep playing
How about this. When you reach the end point (2050, Launch of space ship to AC, Cultural, etc) The game should give us options to quit/retire or keep playing like Civ II did. I realy did not like being forced to retire at 2050 when I want to conqure the Civ world.
