Why? If people aren't going to vote for me anyways, it's not like it matters. Besides, we have better things to worry about now than reelection in a month.

Out on thin ice, some of our representatives are going!
I'll check on it in the coming news, and I hope to find some critisism...

I don't hate you Trip. I can distinguish between you and your policies. I hope that this can remain civil enough so that you can extend me the same courtesy.
I must be opposed to things that I view are not in the interests of the people. I will be in favour of things that I see as being in the interests of the people. And I will be in favour of things that make the game go better for all of us.
Honestly Trip, I really hope that you do not become a one term President, or worse. However, that will largely remain in your hands.
We are faced with a difficult start. I suggest we look for ways to pull together, rather than apart.

I'm here to win the game and make our civilzation the strongest, not here to fight with other members. Everyone ought to know that more than anything else by now. I must admit though, I don't really care what people think of me, but don't at all think I'm going to drive our country into the ground for any reason. People can vote for whatever they want, I can't change that. And I'm somewhat glad that people are blaming the bad map on me, or the bad start at least. Makes it all the more glorious when 1000 BC comes around.

If it makes a difference for you Trip...
Like any good Egypto-Roman, I believe in a firm hand at the tiller of external affairs (the game).
While in Rome... Apolytonia I favour as much freedom as possible for the people in governing ourselves.
There is a big difference between the game and the community. Go forth and be a terror among the Gauls O Great Caesar, but remember that the people must be supreme at home.

It seems clear that the majority support allowing anyone to propose an amendment to the constitution. IMHO, we should close this poll and start a new poll: amendments by anyone with 50%, or amendments by anyone with 2/3.

The poll has 3 or 4 days to run and less than a third of the list have voted. We get in trouble by getting ahead of ourselves.

President Mike :
The point of the grouping system is precisely to avoid a repoll. Currently, Group A has many more voices than group B. If it remains so, the option within group A which has most votes will win.

My 51% vote is in accordance with civman2000 - simple majority decision rules and anyone may propose some change.

I think it should be 66%. Looking straight at the poll from the save game thread. Its scary that so many people would vote 'yes' without considering the implications.

I think only ministers and the president should be allowed to start a poll. This is because i don't want to read loads of polls, some suggesting things twice and others suggesting dumb stuff. If only a few people can post polls on decisions then they will be fairer and more people will vote on the important issues.

Such heavy decisions as changing a nations constitution is nothing to play around with...
The people should of course bee able to change the the constitution, but they must have a definite majority (2/3) to do it, it represents the real world best... it IS how most real democracies work and if we are going to change that then we may not call this the civ3 democracy game anymore...
Don´t change democracy...

I'm glad that 67% is in the lead. I don't care so much about who can submit an amendment, but there definitely needs to be more than a 51% majority to make an amendment official.

in that case, we should have a supreme court of some sort, an elitist legislative group, and a huge bureaucracy ...the people only vote directly on those things the legislature decides to hold referenda on, and then they can come and make another law without going directly to the people overturning the referendum results... My new slogan is "Don't change democracy!!! "!!!
