Plan Eagle actually looks halfway decent. I'm always in favor of super massive overkill when it comes to invading neighboring civs, and I would set at least double the number of archers considering the difficulty we're on just as a matter of principle.
However, as for the Americans being stronger than us, I checked the savegame as of 1910bc and the military advisor is saying we're about equal. Therefore, with some leadership by the intelligent thinking individuals of Apolytonia we should be able to outmanuever the enemy.
As for military alliances, if that happens we just finish off the main objectives and make peace with the remaining enemy.

Also, has anyone made any plans to annex those dye deposits to the north of the Banana HQ?

I saw the revised battleplans at the President's web site, and I saw a lot of improvement. The versatility of the current Plan Eagle eases my concerns. A reassuring overkill effect is not included, though.
NB: I've also surfaced now, daring to wander in the streets with an awful pain inside my Thinkerbox.

Is this guild still going- I am a believer in the importance of the science rate, and the current tiny rate horrifies me. Normally I have it the other way round!

This group was still going, it may be that the people that would usually respond haven't been around in the 5 hrs, 23 mins between your two posts.

Of course the Guild is still going... (not neccesarily going strong)
There has been some activity, though. An expedition through Notylopia, some strategic discussion around Plan Eagle, and also the mandatory alcoholic consumation. Especially my own Gin&Tonic hangover and the following beer reparations this weekend...
The Thinkers Guild has a broad area of matters to overthink. Either sober or drunk. Not only the science rate is of importance to us. (You're right, that is too low at the moment)
There is also a some other aspects around this Guild, by the way.
I hope a lot of people will join the Guild and influence the entire society with humanistic philosophy, irony, critisism, and perhaps an intimidating scientific proof? The latest happenings can be read about in underground magazines here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=55792

I would join, but the mandatory alcoholic consumation (I wonder if that is the same as consumption?) precludes nondrinkers like me.
Since I can't join, I do support the beliefs of the Thinkers Guild.

Well, that mandatory part is only for the more experienced Drunken Philosophy Guild. (Dr.Phil.)
There is SubGuild Initiation Ritual (SUGIR) resulting in an extensive hangover. You wouldn't like it.
Dr.Phil. is a Monty Python inspired subguild consisting of myself and maybe some other whiskey cultivists?
(Nothing to worry about)
- So you are welcome as a member of the Thinkers Guild anyway.
NB: Oh, consumption is perhaps a better word. I'm just a poor Norwegian. I wouldn't know...

I have liked the concept of the Thinkers Guild from the start.
I have seen, as history has also shown IRL, the advantages it can offer. And I have tried to make some of the same points when I post elsewhere. The Military Alliance is still a possibility; if not now, then by the time the war starts, it could happen; esp. on the higher levels.

Amazing, Sir Ralph is leading his election by a landslide as an independent. Independent thought is still (thankfully) alive and well in Apolytonia. And the 82 votes in the presidential race? Simply put: WOW. That's quite a turnout.

well.. SirRalph is one of the most respected people around here. Not every independant would get the same results.
And.. well, 82 votes is alot.. but it doesnt make any difference between 82 or 2, when they are split down the middle.

Welcome to the Dr.Phil. mister!
There are some glasses of "thinkingwater" made ready for you below the guildhall. I bet you can't wait!
It's down here the most science points are generated.
A new beverage has also been invented. It's called Gin&Tonic.
There is a substance called Cinin in it, which helps us cure malaria on our expeditions through Notylopia. Our troop should have some rations too... I hope they will drink a lot.
Also, there is a mushroom called "Fleinsopp" which could be mixed into brewed piss, and cause the consumer to enter a "berserk" mode. Us Thinkers should be advised to stay away from this substance. Unfortunatly, our uniqe units won't use it either, as they do not derive from Nordic barbarian civilizations. They can't even travel through Notylopia. What a mess...

Man. I go on vacation for 2 weeks, and look how much I've missed. I think I might have to drown myself in the Whisky room until I can catch up with all that's happened.
If some one wouldn't mind, could they perhaps brief over what the current situation is, with relevant topics that would be of interest to me? Thanks.

Take a look at the link above. The new underground magazine.
There are some strange things goin' on in the jungle.
Ok, as for the more serious situation... We are going to war pretty soon. There is also a poll upon who will be the enemy.
And, we have found a new tutor: Sun Tzu, whom began teaching at the Apolytonian War Academy recently.
Note:
(We can all simply quote him in stategical theory posts!
The Shogun: Total War - manual has a lotsa quotes )

The latest news from the Exploration wing of the Military Office is that, on an especially clear day, a coastline could be seen SE of Apolytonia. It is my belief we should push for exploration of this land, even whilst the war is on, in order that we discover new forms of alcoho- I mean new forms of intellectual stimulation.

This coastline theory really excites me!
I hope to join the next naval expedition. And I also hope it will be very soon.
We should prioritize this quest higher than military buildup and warfare.
I do not wanna jump into Greek colonists on my next expedition down under...
Currently, I'm preparing the al... *cough* medical supplies.
Oh dammit, I do lack a vessel for this tour!

Um i think this could be a very suitable song for the guild to use:
Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.
There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed.
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away--
Half a crate of whisky every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle.
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And René Descartes was a drunken fart.
'I drink, therefore I am.'
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed,
A lovely little thinker,
But a bugger when he's pissed.

Great song rendelnep. The very best comedians in our world made that song, The Monty Pyton folks...
By the way, I see everybody suddenly got flags under their nicks. How do you get one?
[edit]
Hmm... being politically uncorrect, I must admit the Norwegian flag is kinda ugly.
Oooh, I found nice Macedonian one.

Popping this one... I see The Guild is still alive and well, as it's founder.
(NB: I have just been for "trip" through the universe.
Nobody even noticed my abscense. What a luck! )
