Can one be banned from only one forum?
Dearest Mods, in extreme circumstances, do you have the power (and ability) to ban someone from only ONE forum?
At the Civ3 Democratic game forum we are discussing how to deal with anyone who cheats and ruins the game for the rest of us, and perhaps this may be less harsh than an outright ban (assuming, of course, that one of you considered this to be a bannable offence).

That would be interesting. I can think of a couple of people who I'd like to see locked out of specific on-topic forums.
Seriously, I think they do this at Gamecatcher. So it does happen in some parts of the multiverse.

I think it is possible. MtG once remarked that he had restricted somebody's posting ability by forum (all of them) instead of a flat-out restriction.

At the present, there is no such option implemented, however, it's of course possibly in theory, should appropriate modification be done to the boards.

Yes, it is possible to lock somebody out of a specific forum.

But is it disirable?
I often see someone get a thread locked or a warning go whine about it in another forum, so if they got forum banned, they would just go complain everywhere else.
Ban em and be done with it.
As for cheaters ruining the Civ-s D-game, ban them too.

Uhh Ming, are there any examples of this being done? Hah.
I remember AnnC banning Markos from everything except one forum...

I never said it had been done... just that we do have the option to do it... making your statement incorrect.
If you had access to the control panel, you would know this

Where do you think I go to find out about those Area forums appearing each month .
You know, I suddenly discovered Apolyton is small. Being on about 10 hours a day, I see I can read every thread in forums of interest, and then just spend lots of time refreshing and waiting for new posts, or going to other sites.
Finally I'm starting to catch you in the terms of time spent on Apolyton .

If that's the case, why didn't you know about the ban from specific forums or PM options?

When reading the thread title it sounds like someone is planning to do something stupid in one forum and pleading innocence in all others…

No. A lot of people are fussed about releasing the sav files to the citizens of the Civ3 Demo game. Looking for solutions to anticipated problems.
BTW. Thanks for the simple answer Kermit. Although what remains to be seen is the blood letting that may occur if someone causes people to lobby for a banning.
Hooo boooy!

Perhaps if the president of the game is impeached he could be banned from the forum for a week, I'm sure Ming would have plenty of spare time to do this for you every second day.

With all the requests for topping and untopping threads... throwing in a few bans wouldn't matter.
Heck, banning people is more fun that untopping threads
