WarCraft III
I played the version 1.00 today, and it's great
Nothing much has changed in what the gameplay/interface concerns, but it looks so much better, and the movies are cool as well

It comes out in England in a week or two and I can't wait to play it.
I loved Warcraft 2 and I'm a big fan of Blizzard games in general. It should be cool.
I think the patches for Warcraft 3 have got up to v1.34 so things are probably very different now to how they were in the v1.00 that you played. I know that a couple of buildings were cut (the Orc Pig Farm I think - they get food from Barrows now IIRC) and the tech trees were changed around a lot.
I hope those changes only enhance your opinion of the game.

It's crap.
The gameplay has changed alot.
The gameplay has changed from "build up an army as quick as possible and attack your enemy" to "build up an army, then hunt for phat exps and loots before your enemy takes it all". It is also much more fast paced then previous games.
And, if you ask me, the different races and units are not not very good, and are completely boring to play with. Each race has only 2 or 3 primary units, and some spellcasters and crap.
Oh, there's also no sea units, and very few air units.

I have the Barrows, but it says 1.00 in the bottom corner
Maybe I didn't look carefully enough, I was excited enough about the game itself

I believe Zopperoni is refering to the final version, not a beta.

Fair enough ... he could be ...
The barrows did exist in Beta ... they were just defense buildings only for a long while before the Pig Farms were removed and the Barrows were given the food producing ability.
Probably the full game he's talking about, though ... my bad.

Yeah, it's the Gold version, I did have the beta as well.
I agree that the new races aren't that special. The Night Elves are just plain weird

Warcraft III sucks, I'm sticking to Starcraft when I want great multi-player RTS gameplay.
It's geared towards newbies
probably why some of you like it, though

EB say that game will be out in England on 5th July ... I thought Blizzard were saying a while back that the release date would be almost the same across the world.

What about this editor then?
What about the editor? I understand that it is so flexible that you can create just about any RTS imiginable. It doesn't even have to be in the Warcraft 3 universe at all. Is that right? Has anybody tried it?

What kind of problem do you have? I got a problem when I installed it... It didn't support 32bits color, so I had to change it 16, and it worked perfectly... If your problem is a black screen when you play it, then it's the same problem as me... Just go in the main menu and change the screen resolution and the color
If that's something else, I can't tell you what the solution is though...

My problem is that many textures, parts of the menu and even the mouse cursor are white squares
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to buy a new gfx card

Yeah, that means that it doesn't have enough memory.
(If I remember correctly, the voodoo banshee is only a 4mb video card, when 8mb is the minimum requirement for WC3)

The VoodooBanshee has 16MB
And the readme mentions that there are graphical glitches with Voodoo 4 and 5. They don't even mention VoodooBanshee so I guess I'll just have to wait until I have an nvidia card..

My first impressions:
I'm kinda disappointed by WC3. The scope is too narrow, IMO. I miss the bigger battles of Starcraft, as well as features like mobile Terran bases. The battles in WC3 are hectic still, which seems to be what they were going for. I can't really tell what the hell's going on combat, just lots of units all over the place attacking. Very flashy.
I can't use my heroes nearly as effectively as the computer players, too.
The camera is too zoomed in, I feel so constrained.
I dunno, I'm kinda disappointed I guess. I expected much more. Hopefully Starcraft 2 is in control. So far, I believe Starcraft is a far better game than WC3.

I thought it kicked ass
I just finished the single player campaign
I am definitely going to purchase this game
I have gotten pretty good with the units
One thing to remember is that this is a smaller scale game, it is much better to have an attack group which you can direct all at one time with support and base defense rather than use all the troops for fighting (even though sometimes you have to)

I was hoping they'd salvage the single player. I can see why WC3 is less suited for MP than Starcraft was, or even Diablo II, so I wasn't expecting much from the multiplayer.
But the single player is simply a typical RTS-type campaign. You are almost always restricted in what you can build (that annoys me to no end), and your heroes also have level caps per level and max out at L10. If that's not enough, there are numerous occasions where your hero is reset back to Level 1 and he loses all of his inventory.
And I love it when the campaign-script kills off a perfectly good hero you spent a couple missions developing just for the sake of plot. It doesn't even let you control it.
