A pity, that.
It would be nice to have to try harder.
e.g SMAC/CIV is a nightmare to play when you first start.

I had to restart 2 missions I think, the rest was quite easy - I played on normal difficulty. I usually don't dare to start a game on high difficulty, perhaps i should have...
I won my last mission by placing 36 (4 rows with 9 trees each) defence trees (don't know their english name) in the south of my base and around 10 in the west along with a lot of fountains. I tried to destroy all meatwagons with flying units as well as my heroes, the base defence managed the rest. In the end more than half of the trees were destroyed though.

I was going to post that I hadn't restarted any (although the last undead mission was _very_ close indeed) but I just got my ass whupped on orc mission 3. I sorta assumed the third mission wouldn't be too tricky............then 2 or 3 sets of humans with some heroes descended upon my base at the same time some powerful creeps were containing my army.

I had to restart the 3rd Nightelves mission, I assumed that I had more than enough time for quite a while until I saw the timer. Then it was too late, while I managed to rush through the Orc base I had to few units to beat the last guards of the druid. - I restarted.
I also had to restart the last mission, mainly because I didn't know that the Undead would attack the other two bases at first and I had quite some time to prepare myself. Once I found out about it I restarted and took both of the free goldmines.

I am about to get WC3. Has anyone attempted to start the game on the hardest difficulty level? Is it possible to play through it on that level from the start? Is it recommended to play it on the hardest level from the start?

The WC3 I have only features 2 difficulty levels normal and hard. With this little of a choice I picked normal of course since SC was kinda hard.
Anyways I think you can switch the difficulty level after a campaign. I would definitly use hard difficulty for the first campaign since it is really easy on "normal". It should not be too hard to beat the next 2 campaigns on "hard" either, but it depend on how well you managed before. And then there's the last campaign, again chose depending on how much trouble you had before - if you beat it you get to see some 3d Starcraft units.

StarCraft was really too hard to play through because the storyline wasn't driving enough to endure the punishment waiting in every level. And every level was pretty much the same (build up a lot of guys, go smash enemy base(s) ).

hippies
The night elves are such hippies......why did they have to have the last campaign? I just finished orcs, and they have style; they should have finished the game and saved the world single handed whilst the NE stayed home and hugged some trees.

I've found WarCraft 3 to be fun. I think I'll actually buy the game.
