We (English) don't get it for another two weeks - IIRC ... maybe it's less ... or more .
I'm looking forward to playing it because it looks pretty damn good, but I'm sure you guys will let us all know if it sucks for any reason.

If this turns out to be really good, this will be a major reason for me to buy a new PC...

LOL@ Apocalypse!
Well, in 8minutes he should have managed to install 1-2 gigs of data, go through the intro movie, character generation and have played half of and adventure already. I'll give him 5 more minutes and then he should be ready to give us a 3 page review of the game...

Well he said that he was installing it now. It must have already started before be posted. If he is going to keep a detailed report of his adventures in NWN, he should also tell us when he finishes downloading, not just when he starts.

I'm just joking around. Him wanting to play NWN instead of post here might be a good sign for the game.

It has been 140 minutes now. I hope it is good if he is going to leave us hanging over it.

Actually, as I feared, I will be needing to get a new sound card before I can fully enjoy the game. I spent all that time futilely trying to get the sound to work properly. Ah well, in a week or two I should be able to afford a sound card.
But, the main menu and character generation was nice...

Oh, and you've just got to hear the "high-strung evangelist" voice set.
I'll see if I can figure out a way to get a sample of it up here tommorow.

What is bad about the sound with your card exactly?

The character creation uses a 30 point buying system.
That means that all your stats (STR, DEX etc..) start out at 8 and you have to pay to raise them.
8-13 = one point per raise
14-15 = 2 points per raise
16-17 = 3 points per raise
18 = 4 points

You can lower them below 8 to get more points, can't you?

My sound card isn't compatible with direct x 8.1, and it's given me problems in one way or another with every game that uses that, so I was expecting this.
I haven't actually tried playing the game yet, but the sound on the movies continuously cuts out - The same thing happened in morrowind, and also resulted in the game crashing after about 5 minutes of play.
I've got one more thing to try... and if it doesn't work I'll atleast get you some screen shots of the character generation.
(and if anyone knows how to extract a .bif file, I can get you some samples of the voice sets)

I can't remember how it works in 3rd edition core rules, but taken from the NWN manual...
Code:
|
Ability score - Cost - Total Cost
8 0 0
9 1 1
10 1 2
11 1 3
12 1 4
13 1 5
14 1 6
15 2 8
16 2 10
17 3 13
18 3 16 |
And anything below 8 costs 0 points, you can't go into negatives.

Well, I've figured out a way to watch the movies properly, and my soundcard doesn't seem to be causing any serious problems within the game.
I only played through the tutorial, so I can't say a whole lot about the game, yet. But my impressions so far... - Graphics are good, even on the lowest settings. (I'm running a P3 500 with a Geforce2 MX and 128mb of ram - so far everything is running smoothly and with out problem... aside from my soundcard, ofcourse )
- The interface and design is very easy to use and "out of the way" but can also be a bit confusing, and lacking in some areas.
- Combat seems to be very straight forward and easy to control. (But I haven't really gotten a chance to get into any real fights yet - most of the enemies in the tutorial didn't last long enough for me to get much of an impression on the combat )

As far as the single player campaign goes, it no doubt is.
Where NWN is supposed to excell is in multiplayer and module creation - that is what the game was designed for.

Hmmm,
I got a P2 350, 224 MB RAM, and a Voodoo3 with 16 MB VRam. I know my processor is slow, but you think it'll work? Or do I have to wait for my new laptop to play this as well?
