I know, I was present in the turnchat. Trip asked what to build next after the city expanded. There was 1 turn left either for Warrior or Worker. Eli yelled "Worker", I opposed, but as you know I am not a member of the staff and my opinion doesn't matter. Since nobody else opposed, a Worker was built and a pop point wasted. Oh well, not really. We need lots of workers for the glorious jungle city we plopped.

The build queue was decided before the turnchat, I just reminded Trip that "if i'm not mistaken, Apolyton should be building a worker now".

tis true. it was decided ahead of time.
we needed a warrior or a woker, as apolyton was going to be a 2 with no defender.
the City Planner (DIA, CTED) chose a worker.

because maybe HE didnt make the call.
according to THIS THREAD, the CTED report for 3300 BC, the queue is set, and approved by Timeline (in the screenshot).

I think we should explore further to the north
this will HOPEFULLY give some good land
also... we need more soldiers even if you only expect to trade techs with france they wont respect us and will charge sky high prices for techs if we dont have military
well ive never played emperor but still...

Sir Ralph speaks wisdom throughout this thread. I am heartened that people listen.
May I propose the following?
1. Without much good land to settle, knocking off our closest neighbour is imperative.
2. To win any war we will need more than 1 productive city.
3. We have room for 2 more cities (max) which could each use 2 mined grassland tiles on the Apolyton plains. This would place them closely, thus restricting the future size of one or both. However, that would give us 3 productive cities for an early war.
4. We have not located the French settlements. It is not even necessarily the case that the French cities are the closest to us. While we erect our two additional arsenals, we can continue scouting in sweeping arcs to locate our prey.
Building the worker hurt us a bit, however it may help by the time hostilities can commence. By the time Apolyton can build the 2 daughter cities, Thebes should be productive and be working on it's Barracks. That would give us 4 cities for the Archer rush. Very doable, if we find them and they are close enough.
This plan requires discipline and commitment. If we decide on it we must stick with it from the moment we embark upon it. Any actions which diminish our ability to pump out Archers at the earliest possible date must be avoided at all costs, or the Archer gambit is lost.

PS. We may not need to build 2 extra cities. 1 may be enough. This point can certainly be debated.
However, it is imperative that we locate the closest enemy cities ASAP. Long stabbing thrusts into the darkness will not help unless we get really lucky. The Warriors must slash across then out and across again.
