Game freezes when attempting to build roads
The game freezes when I go to build roads on land squares. It seems to happen on newly conquered ground only, but does not happen everywhere. I have no clue why this would happen. I am using version 1.21f and the latest version of the Balancer Mod if that makes any difference.
I have not had any problem like this before.

I can list a hundred problems with Civ 3 but that is not one I have encountered nor heard of.
Be sure you have at least 256 RAM.
If it still happens report it as a bug to the geniuses at Firaxis: http://www.firaxis.com/contact_gamefeedback.cfm

I imagine it's due to the recalculation of the trade network. I occasionally see long pauses when building roads when I connect a city into the trade network. In newly conquered cities you often have incomplete roads or roads that partly go through other people's territory. Building a road that directly connects a new city into your network can cause a pause in a large empire as the trade net is reworked. I often see pauses when I bombard an enemy city and destroy its harbour for the same reason.

I dont necessarily think you need 256MB ram, though. Civ3 works fine on my 128MB machine
doesnt mean I'm not going to upgrade to 256 before the end of summer, though

thx for ur replies, yes i do have 256 ram. Like I said I have not seen this before and I have had Civ3 from day one.
I did find a solution, which was to destroy the land improvements and then rebuild them. This works, but I just have to remember to do it otherwise I may slip and it will freeze.
