Or, if the person so desires, use the name for a landmark. e.g., the Del Monte Desert
Hmmm, not sure tacking on newe would be best.....my chosen city name already has "New" in it. And no, it isn't New York or anything so unoriginal.

Ubergrad! Or perhaps, Uberinsk. Or even Uberkov.
I don't think it would work for me. Tripgrad just doesn't have a good ring to it.

Wow, it's pretty creative here... It's different from my games where I dearly lack imagination to name my cities...
Could anyone use his imagination in the landmark naming thread plz ?

Thanks for the link Spiff. Hey, put me on the list. Please......
Thank you.
I would like the city to be named
"Babahoyo"
Pronounced ba-ba-HOY-o
It is in RL a crappy little town in Ecuador - but I always liked the name. Has a nice ring to it. (and yes, I do know what it means).

GodKing (and other people who'd like to see their favorite name ppearing here):
Actually, not anybody will figure on this list. It was decided by several polls that officials should get to name first, and other people would be chosen by a randomizer program Trip wrote (hence the nominations of wervdon, FlipMcWho, joost etc.), among active players
However, there are some new things which should be settled when we'll rename other cities :
- Where do we place newly elected ministers in the list ?
- Should we rerun the randomizer so that only current active players get chosen ?
- Should we give priority to justices, or treat them like normal citizens for this matter ?
Maybe this thread is no place to debate this, but these questions need to be adressed within a month or so, when the officials will have named newly founded / conquered cities.

There are some good points to be made for and against the current/future ministers
personally, I would make a list of people, when they were elected to their jobs, and use that for city names.
right now, we arent in very immeadiate danger of running down the list too quickly. But we must always have previous (historical) ministers first on the list of city namers. Historical figures get cities named after them before current figures would. Thats just how it works.
But i would definately change the normal members to more recently elected officials.

We should honor Trip with a city - so how about Trip City?
We should modify city names with regard to the surrounding terrain. Taking Trip City as an example, we could have:
Trip River (the city is on a river)
Port Trip (the city is on the coast, and is likely to be a major port)
Mount Trip (the city is next to a mountain)
Trip Lake (the city is next to a lake)
Trip's Horse Farms (the city has a Horses resource nearby)
etc.

Starmouse :
Trip already named a city (Termina), and we have tons of different things to name, one could be after him :
- landmarks (including the name of our planet and our moon(s) )
- money
- units which generate a leader
- boats
- medals and honor system
- Days, weeks and month (IRL, July comes from Julius Caesar, and August comes from emperor Augustus, so it sounds reasonable to me)
So I don't think we have to name a city after Trip (nor should we name a city after Ninot or the next prez). We can honor them differently.

I don't really think we should name the entire planet after a single person, unless they're a god of some sort (and we don't even have gods yet - we need a creation myth). All of the planets in our solar system are named after Greek/Roman gods, so the planets in our solar system should be named after Apolytonian/American/German gods or something like that. This is of course, after we discover Astronomy. We'll be able to see the other planets then.

I would propose "Guineoburg", which is another spanish way of saying Banana with the German suffix for city.
Other possibilitys:
Obstgrad ('Fruit City')
Bananarama
Pajamaville (From bananas in pajamas)

If we follow standard procedure, the Planet we are on should be called 'Dirt', 'Rock', 'Mud' or another form of ground, heck, why not 'Ground'? We could be SMAC creative and call it 'planet', or, more appropriate for our situation, 'Jungla', the great Jungle Planet.

GePap :
Unless your ideas please someone who get to name a city, or if you are picked when we rerun the randomizer, your ideas won't be listed in the first post.
To everybody else : if you're not on the list, you can think of city names, but don't expect it to be followed soon. You'll have to be an official or to be picked by the randomizer in order to name a city.
