Aeson, I was basically just saying that if they wanted to get to those very late techs, they could turn off most off the victory conditions. No votes will occur with Diplomatic off. If on, then of course you need to build the UN to protect against a bad vote.

Any chance of getting the screenshots back up, Aeson?

They were auctioned off here on 'Poly for approximately 200 dollars apiece. Ridiculous what fame can do...

Sorry, don't know what happened to the screenshots. I didn't keep them on file either.
Santa did solve my problems though, Wizardry 8 and PtW (though both arriving a bit late and by UPS, perhaps because I don't have a chimney).

Thanks Dominae, so far it looks worth the wait.
Truth be told, I haven't even played a PtW game yet because the game is so fun. I did install PtW so I could look at the save file structure though.
How's the PtW Demo treating you guys anyways?
And you seem very eager alva... has me a bit nervous.

Great fun! We learned a lot already (or at least I did ). The close interactions between the members of our team on a relatively slow turn speed means a lot of discussion is going on on details you would otherwise overlook.

The public forum doesn't give out a whole lot of information, and no offense, but your 'shield' would clash too much with my avatar! (yes, it's very superficial of me )

For those (like me) who want an easier start in Deity - create a new game using your favourite settings, and save the start position. Create you city, wait a few turns - then RETIRE!
The entire landmass is shown on the replay, together with the start position of competitive Civs. It gives you an idea of how difficult that particular game will be, without exploring for hours to find out your on a postage sized island with 1 luxury resource.
I find that, on Deity, the world builder will give you a half decent start (couple of different luxuries, plus defendable area) about ONCE every SIXTEEN attempts. So do save each one with a unique name.
Good luck with the game - you'll need it.

cruddy: with restarting you can quite easily win at deity. i used to do so. but that's not the idea. you havn't really challenged a lever if you can't win in -let's say- 75% of all random cases.
btw, instead of restarting, you could just as well create a world in the editor and look if you like it. then chose your ideal starting location and set it to the civ you want to play as.

Aeson - can you post or update the screenshots on the first page? They seem to have disappeared.

Those screenshots were lost I'm afraid. Changed ISP's and forgot I had them hosted on my old one, and they were promptly deleted.

Has anyone got the whole thread archived somewhere? This is one thread that should go in it's entirety to Poly archives - pictures especially.

I don't know about the rest of you civvers. but IRON WORKING IS ALWAYS THE FIRST TECH I RESEARCH! And the Wheel/ Horseback Riding is right behind that! It's a huge advantage to know where the resources are, early in the game, so you can plan your cities accordingly!

i'll go for pottery or a well tradable tech (writing, math, mysticism). if you can outREX the AI you have a good chance to grab iron and horses. if you don't, the resource is probably too far away anyway...
