Mobilization?
I've been playing the Germans for the first time in GOTM8. It was a strange game for me (I didnt get to build any wonders) but I got the hang of things and turned into a warmonger (I'm normally a builder).

So here are my questions. I have seen the mobilization "button" in the F1 screen but never used it. How effective is it ? What are the downsides to using it?

Mobilization speeds up production of military units and buildings, but you can't build anything else. You also can't leave mobilized mode until you are at peace again. Personally, I never use it.

Thanks. I'm really after comments from people who do use it and what they think of it. It seems to me that if you're a war monger anyway that it would be a big help.

Well, I'm a warmonger so ypu'd think I'd use it, yeah? However, I usually fight wars against several civs at once. Since it's unlikely thta I'll achieve peace with all of them at the same time, I'm stuck with mobilization even though it's really no longer necessary.

You should check out Catt's thread on the Strategy forum "Fundamentals of Mobilization Revealed"

AFAIK, you only need to sign one peace treaty to fall out of mobilization, so it's not that difficult to get rid of it. And yes, Catt's thread is really good.

Mobilization ends automatically when you achieve peace with one of the other nations.

Non-military improvements can be completed even after mobilization has started, but after that only units and military improvements can be built.

Thanks for that link. It was an interesting post. So it can be effective but it has some serious drawbacks unless you're at war with a bunch of nations. Good it means I havent missed much.

you can also use it for a short war , and all the extra units you have made , just disband them when making peace , .... and the buildings shall be build faster , ...
