OK, so now you have got the "crack" version (that is, the no CD patch?? ) or you found your cd and want to improve your version??
And what do you want?? the "full classical CIV II" (version 2.42, if I'm not mistaken??) or MPGE (Multiplayer)??
Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake...

The original Civ2 CD had IIRC v1.03 on it - this MUST be upgraded to v2.42 this can be obtained from here - go to apolyton.net/civ2 and click on 'database' you will find the v2.42 upgrade there

OK, so I guess you have CIV MPGE still installed on your computer, but you need a CD to be allowed to play!!
There is a "no cd patch" which allows to play once MPGE has been installed, but I don't remember where the file is!!
I'll try to find the link for you (no promise, though...)

OK, I had a look at it, and it seems that there is no diect link to this patch!!
BUT I can give you the names of people who have it and might be able to mail it to you:
War4ever and CapTVK!!
So try asking them, and maybe they will be able to help you!
Good luck!

Oh well…
I would post the zip file of the no-CD 2.42 crack but it's larger than 500k. Don't remember where I got it from so long ago.

You didn't say whether you have Civ2 regular or Civ2MGE. I believe the crack I got didn't matter what version of Civ2 regular. It doesn't affect anything except the CD check. I may even have applied the 2.42 patch after the no-CD.

SG, I just couldn't remember how either patch worked as it has been years since I got 'em.
tomcat, I don't do scenarios and haven't delved into mods. When I encountered Apolyton and a couple other Civ2 sites I found out about modifying the rules.txt file.
Do you think Fundamentalism is too powerful? You can reset the # of support-free units per city (I set it to 0 because Fanatics are already free of support). You can change the research penalties.
You can change the corruption level for Communism. You can change the chances of a Trireme sinking and the road movement multiplier and the number of food eaten by Settlers.
You can change the order of Advances. You can change the Advances required to build City Improvements and units. You can change movement, att/def, FP/HP, build costs, and special abilities of units.
The properties of terrain types and specials can be tweaked. The time and results of irrigation, mining, and transformation can be altered.
Obviously it is both powerful and easy to screw up.
