What a difference a little time off makes...
Well, about a week before I cleaned up my apartament it happened. I burned out on CIVIII(!). I went back to some old favorites, including the neglected Talonsoft Campaign Series bugfests, SMAC/AC, even ctp1 & 2....even civ tot. Then I cleaned up my apt., moved everything around, which precipitated unplugging this thing I'm typing at, and proceeded to not play any computer game for quite a while.
I discovered several things.
1. I was playing this thing way too much...
2. I still have a life, though...
3. Women still find me attractive (some)...
4. I'm really looking forward to ptw...
What a loser!!!!!
So someone fill me in on whats new.....

The madness never ends.
You will learn to like it, after a while.

It's difficult to get away, that'S for sure. My wife who I met after the CIV 2 craze doesn't recognize me anymore. I am glued to the screen all the time, missing on my sleep and ehhem other things . It is the same with all Civ games .... the one more turn virus..... that doesn't get cured that easily.
So I promised myself to stop playing for a couple weeks (thank God she's visiting her parents for a couple a weeks after the two weeks will be over ) at which time I will return with a vengeance and destroy the Japanese and the Zulus and the ......(hopefully the new Patch witll be out by then)

I'm on a civ 111 break too. Still like to keep informed thogh. Trying out a new game, and waiting patiently for PTW, patches and the editor.

I think Civ is a subculture in a way. I have friends who play civ3...badly. It takes a certain kind of mind to play on the level most of us do, it's on a mental plane that I think most of the population doesn't touch. Not that I'm sayin we're better than eveyone else, but we are .
And I get plenty of chicks, no really...I...do...

There should be a warning label . . .
. . . for single guys - one more turn syndrome means no action syndrome. I'm starting to burn out - I feel like I know the AI better than my family. Of course, the AI is much more intelligent and rational than my family. But once MP arrives, I'll be back to my addicted ways.

You know you have been playing Civ 3 too much: When you fix it so the first thing your Domestic Advisor says is an offer to perform fellatio…

You're right. I guess we Civ gamers will have to accept our responsibility as the leaders of this remarkably unintelligent world.
but really, I also have civ3-playing friends who just don't understand the game (they're the shoot 'em up type) and don't understand why I enjoy ruthlessly conquering the simulated civilized world.
Oh well...great minds are always misunderstood...

Truly. If Civilization is sexually simulating, then we might have a problem.
Well, on second thought, we do have all that time in between turns, so I guess you might as well put it to good use.

Well My dvd is busted. I tried to fix it myself, but think I totally @^#$'d it up. This is a good thing. I have "things I need to do" so maybe the best. The longer I exist w/o civ III the better it will be when I go back. Thinking about waiting til ptw, though that might be a long time. Perhaps I should start a reaaly wack thread on "off topic".
