Back on topic, would anybody entertain the idea of playing on a real world map? Or a scenario? It might up the challenge a bit, just as a large map would...

I would prefer a random map, pretty boring when you already know where all the land is.

Maybe not an island world this time. It would be repetitive to just go through the same Ironclad/Cavalry strategy again.

Oh, the sacrifices of office!
I can live with nightmarish sleeping times for a few days per week, especially since we expect to be finished within two or three weeks.
I like the turnchat idea and am reasonably flexible with times. If anyone thinks we should do this from now on, or whether it should just be the last session, let us all know.
Perhaps the save can be distributed on the last turn, and those of us who can, turnchat a combined victory - it is everyone's victory, and we can maybe share it out in this way. This would also mean that anyone who wants to play on after we've finished (not killing the last civ) and find a way to milk some more points out of the game, can do so.
And as for the next game, I like the idea of a continent landmass this time - let's test our loand-based strategies. I am here for the fun of it and also to learn new tactics for winning at Deity level - the Superclad one is, honestly, new to me.
Let's find out what happens when we can't use them as effectively...
Premier of Apolytonia
MrWIA.

I am willing to admit that I learned more about this game by participating in this forum of the Demo Civ2 game in 4 months than I had learned by playing itby myself or in MP play in the previous 2 years.
I look forward to the next game in a land-based situation.

OK for a large map. I sometimes like playing real world (eg. mercator maps).
Why not a scenario ?

I love the idea of using a large map. I tend toward a preference of Random, but I must admit a World Map is somewhat intriguing.
Scenarios are not Civ. They can be fun, but many of them are unbalanced.
They are but pale reflections of the Real Game.

A bigger map with continents might be nice(btw the earth map is quite good for this)...
Something else wich is fun to do is stay away from the AI long and let it develop...and try to crush it when they have an average of >30 cities.

About maps
It seems that the ironclad strategy worked too well - everybody has seen enough of it and wants land land land! For those new to it, it can be continued into a fighter vs pikeman situation. Alone (without all those voting citizens messing up your evil schemes ), you can race to steam engine and then to flight, usually before the AI reaches gunpowder. I find it very amusing to mow down legions and pikemen with fighters. ANYWAY...
Random maps
I suppose we could just make it large with continents and hope for the best. Somebody might be willing to alter a random map to fill in more water with land...
Real world maps
I have some large maps of continents that would suffice to make navies less important. In particular, I have huge maps of South America and Africa that are very good for gameplay. Some scenario maps on that scale work, as well. Harlan made some of asia that were huge and detailed. Some are too big, but there are good ones.
Europe maps usually include the mediterranean. I've played hundreds of games around that sea, and navies always matter. Lots of coastline means ironclads again, but there is plenty of inland area for a balanced game.

Scenarios are the whole reason CivII remains fun after all these years! Unbalanced scenarios are also known as bad scenarios. Find some good ones, you may see them in a different light!

Good scenarios are seriously kickass! In fact, if it weren't for scenarios, I wouldn't be playing Civ2 anymore. Here's a good idea for a MP game: Red Front. Anyone else here agree?

I thought Red Front was completely unbalanced with a human playing the germans.
Red Front is a kickass scenario about the eastern front made by Captain Nemo

Well I am in for the second round and concur that the continents route is the best for a more challenging game. The AI in Civ never really used to cope well with navy and amphib operations anyways... But a further suggestion, how about letting the AI civs develop (fight a defensive game) until the first civ develops the automobile/mobile warfare? I find the game far more challenging, instead of a walk over, when the AI has the city mass and military capability to do some serious dmg. Also throw in the odd nuke and you have a nice challenging game... thoughts welcome

i believe that is an unrealistic goal, to let them develop until automobile, which would take a very long time. and since we wouldn't be attacking, there would be very few cities because we didn't attack, and the SMC would be out of a job and the people wouldn't get to attack the enemy very often
