Conquer Sikh city and get -29000 gold!
I am currently playing a game as the English and conquered an Indian city earning me -29000 gold. That really hurts.
I'm pretty sure I have enough military to destroy those pesky Sikhs also knocking off Shaka and gang. However, in the interest of personal high scores... I was wondering how I can "fix" this? Hex editors? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't know too much about this stuff. My intention to edit the game to what it should have been before the bug.
I'm running Civ II 2.42

first off, how much did the indians have. da smokes that if they were loaded enough(DEFENITLY not likley, but still poissible) you could have goten taht money fairly. how often has htis occured. if its the first time, da smokes says be happy ya got loaded like that in one city taking. if it hapopens alot, then call customer service if ya think the games gone and done some computer weed or something. (in less stupid terms, if you think the computer can't calculate right and is going to give you more problems like messing with city numbers, which could happen if whatever controls the output factors, cash from taken cities, unit cost to sities, etc. is messed up) before call them customer service crackheads, though, try uninstaling then reinstaling the game.

I've gotten negative gold when I get way too much gold to quickly. The limit on the gold is around 30,000. But if you are at the limit and take a large city, or another civ pays you a large sum, it will screw your gold total up. Overflow errors in the currency register to be exact.
You could always use the scenario editor to edit the money back to the positive side, or course this would flag your saved game as edited. I think there is a utility to edit the money outside of Civ2 where the saved game won't have the edited flags. Or 3rd, you can edit this with a hex editor. I have seen instructions for indicating where each civ is inside the save file, and where their gold amount and other variables are located. I will have to look for that site again.

WhiteKnight, any luck finding the hex editing information? If possible, that's the option I want to go for.

Shogun,
I am still looking for that link. It has been sometime since I was last at the site. When I find it, i'll post it here.

Shogun, which version are you running? If its MP Julius' Gigamap patch also fixes the cash limit....
edit: sorry should learn to read - I don't think there is a cash patch for 2.42

No, it's only for MGE.
The ToT version should come out soon.
No 2.42 of FW version is intended, because the gigamaps wouldn't work there. The patch would only fix gold and population limits, I don't think it would interest too many people.

I have used the GigaMap in MGE, and it works fine, but one of my dropdown menus from the top is a little messed up. Anyone else every had this problem?

WhiteKnight, I have had this problem too. I e-mailed Julius and he said to get patch 1.3 for MGE. After that it has worked fine.
