Historian: What shall we do?
We have no one running for the position of historian, what shall we do about it?

I second that.
We can not force it upon someone...so the only thing we can do is hope(and beg)

I have read the comments here, of course. I just thought maybe I should wait to respond until the poll was completed.
But perhaps not. The comments seem to be rather definate. I would really like to be your Historian; I just didn't want to cause a lot of arguing about the election cycles and all that stuff. If I may be Historian, private citizen, then I would like to do that very much as long as it won't cause dissension.
I will begin to document the remaining history of our World as soon as my duties as President are over and -Jrabbit has completed his contributions (and wonderful they have been!).
Thank you, all...

If all goes well (and there are no guarantees), Cavebear will be documenting only his own Presidency. But my files are open and available.

I'd be happy to write a chapter, should nobody else step forward. My time is a bit limited, tho, so anybody with the will should go ahead and do it.

Dissension?! Refusing the Premier is a crime punishable by, er, something nasty the Marquis has up his sleeve for just such anti-Communist behaviour. Especially where it would benefit the people. Our Comrade Premier's philanthropy is clearly beyond reproach!
Which election cycles are you referring to, my Premier? If you are concerned that a prolonged stay in office shall cause dissent, I point all who question this to the decision the people have made: 4 consecutive terms in office only, unless their is no alternative candidate for a position, in which case the restriction is waived. Besides, you have only been in office twice, IIRC.

I am no longer concerned over any possible election cycle questions. I will be happy to be the Historian for July.

Sample:
"The Cavalry units had arrived at the edge of the forest between Pisae and Madras. The forward units had dismounted and were brushing back the last shrubs separating them from the plain between themselves and the Madras defences. In hushed commands, the leader bade the Spy to come forth. There were several hours before daylight, and the Spy had arranged to meet "certain people" by the city gates. The gold was in the saddlebags of the horse the Spy led, and there were mounted Cavalrymen guarding the Spy from a distance acceptable to both parties.
"In the field, 2 men from Madras stood up carefully, signaling that they had no weapons. Mata Hari, the Apolyton Spy, signalled in return and went forth to complete the negotiations. The Madras representatives were the Gatekeeper and the city's Deputy Mayor. Between them, they had aranged for the opening of the City Gates shortly before dawn, when the defense would be pulled back and the townspeople would still be asleep. They two would be allowed outside on horses before the attack and none would know of their treachery due to the confusion created by the attack.
"Bags of gold were handed in one direction; keys, codes, and the assurance of open gates handed in the other. Each returned to their own side briefly. When the gates opened shortly thereafter, and 2 figures rode off on horses for wild places, none of the Cavalry were surprised. This pattern had been observed befoire, and would be observed again. The Cavalry mounted and streamed through the now open gate in the City-Wall. Terror and victory followed them as the city defenders collapses into small unlead groups and were overwhelmed. Madras was theirs!
"The navy, on the other hand, had a completely different code of ethics... The Ironclad commanders never contacted their opponents... etc".

The outgoing Historian rates this submission
Very nice. I know your perspective is one of a general at the front, leading troops to battle, Cavebear. All you need to do is add a little flavour taken from the forum (as the ppl doth verily like to see their names in print!), and a little levity.
Have fun!

Don't worry, there will be levity and the home front, also.
