The faster you win the more points you get.
You also get points by haveing land. This is the bluck of your
ponits. You also get points for getting furture tech. which you can only get when you have all the other tech. But you
get so little points for that! The score is also biased on the #
of happy citzens you have and the conent and tax/scientes/ taxmen people you have. Milking you score is getting the highest pop. possible and making them happy. And then you win. Most of the time by going into space.

difficulty level is also hugely important: winning on Diety guaruntees you a positive score

Is a negative score possible?

Re: scoring
Difficulty level and map size are the two most important factors.

I meant that the warrior will give a victory roar rather than falling on his back (which is what you get with a low score). So, positive in the emphatic rather than mathematical sense.

In my experience Happy faces do alot for your scoring.
I don't care for it to much, but i've seen otherrs who do.
Having scores of 60.000 , Talk about milking, that's a whole cow factory IMO
